I like Traditions at Cypresswood. The price isn't bad, and it is usually in very good shape. I also think the price difference is enough between it and the regular Cypresswood course to keep up the pace of play.

I don't like spending a lot of money on a routine weekend so typically play Clear Creek or Southwyk around Pearland. They're decent. Battleground out in Deer Park comes and goes. Some of the muni courses are nice. Memorial if you can get on and Sharpstown usually has really good greens but that's about it. River Plantation up towards Conroe is a good bargain for the price.

More expensive courses I've played and enjoyed are Wildcat, Tour 18, and a couple up around the Woodlands (Woodforest, Panther, etc) and they were all in real good shape.

I am going to stretch Lake Jackson into this since Wilderness is my favorite course and it is in the area of Houston. Good greens, nice layout, and very well maintained.

I like the airport, because it can get you the hell out of Houston and to a better golfing destination.

Cypress is a great course. They play a few qualifiers there.

Memorial, IMO, is one of the best public course layouts you can find. Also, IMO, one of the worst managed public courses in Texas. No need for a 5+ hour round.
