1) Terrific starting hole that’s deceptively tough. The hazard that juts in makes you lay back or take on the fairway bunker. Steeply elevated green with trouble left and long. Tough par if you miss the green

2) very well designed short par 4, and a nice chance for birdie after a tough opening hole

3) another good scoring opportunity on a reachable Par-5. Not a particularly special hole, but it’s aesthetically pleasing and fun to play

4) one of the best par-3s in Louisiana, nice downhill elevation change over a pond.

5). Terrific hole... exteremtly long par-4 but fair... gives you a ton of strategic options off the tee, a 4 is basically a birdie here.

6) I hate this tee shot, especially in the wind. It’s just way too penal. Nice approach shot and good greensite.

7) ok par-5. Nothing special. The par 5s are probably this course’s weakness, except for 18
8) another good par 3. Similar to the 4th, but not quite as dramatic
9) This is another really solid Par-4. If you don’t hit a great T shot, you’re going to have a long iron in hand to a well guarded green

10) Good hole to start the next 9. Well placed T ball gives you a good shot at hitting the green
11) This is a tougher hole than you’d think standing on the tee. Gotta challenge the bunker on the corner to have a short club in.
12). Come on? Bland? This is a fantastic golf hole. Green site is reminiscent of 12 at Augusta.
13) I personally hate this hole, but it’s a very challenging par 5. If you can hit it long, it’s reachable. I’m usually hoping I hit it good enough off the tee to get it over the cross hazard on my second.
14) bland? Island green par 3 with a mid iron in the windiest spot on the course.
15) another great risk reward hole... nice chance for a birdie if you can sneak it between the bunker and the rough. Plenty of room to the left if you want to play it safe
16). This is a better hole than people give it credit for... Ive seen it driven down wind. Challenging green, even with a wedge approach
17) homage to the postage stamp at Royal Troon. This is a fantastic golf hole
18) come on? This is a great finisher. It was always fun to sit on the hill behind the green and heckle our groups coming in for the league championship.

So it’s got at least 12 really good golf holes. The best set of par-3’s unquestionably in the state, and the Par 4’s are really interesting and varied. Add in that’s I’ve never once seen it in less than fantastic shape (other than when the greens are punched).

It’s obvuously not Cypress Point, but we’re in Louisiana, not on the ocean or in the mountains.

State your case for a better publicly accessible golf course in South Louisiana...

Agree the location is less than ideal. I think there were a couple of external factors that caused it not to work... first being John Brady’s untimely death. He would have developed the neighborhood and the retail alot faster. Like most golf developments that would have provided some more revenue to support the course. I have to believe he would have marketed it better as well. No one that’s tried to operate it since has any great passion for the game. To my knowledge, none of the Chouest baws even play. Then of course the oilfield tanking was another dagger to the heart.

I’m not being sensitive, but El’s comments in this thread have included “meh” and it’s “bland”. Neither of those are objectively true. Like I said, name a better public course in South Louisiana...

Chouest owned the pavers and paving company, he had Mexicans sitting around on payroll doing nothing, the cart paths was horrible, so he made some new ones. I could give two fricks about a clubhouse honestly, my pet peeve will always be golf course conditions and I’ve never played LaTour since the day it opened that it hasn’t matched up to any golf course in the state condition wise. I don’t need a clubhouse more than what they have now, I don’t need a pool or tennis courts, I have all of that at the club close to my house and never use any of it except the bar and occasionally the restaurant.
