I heard from a guy that played it Saturday that it’s the worst greens in the state.

Played Saturday. Greens were in terrible shape.

Also played it Saturday, and I second the greens were absolute shite. Bunkers were in pretty rough shape too, don't waste your time there.

I had to rake the sand on the greens after I finished putting.
My buddy tried to give me a two stroke penalty for setting my putter down on the green before hitting the ball.
He said I was grounding my club in a hazard.

Thanks fellas. Hadn’t played it in a couple years and sounds like I won’t be playing it anytime soon

I played Monday and Wednesday. The conditions are ok. The fairways are in average shape for the most part. Most of the sand traps are in pretty bad shape. They have hard, brown looking sand and need work.
The greens are the biggest liability though. The only way to say it is that they are no good. There is still some residual sand on the greens from a prior sanding, and there are bare spots I assume caused by heat. Putting is very iffy because the ball will not hold a true line.
I don't want to be too critical, because I really like the course for the price and like the layout.
It just needs some TLC.

The transition from winter grass started Memorial Day weekend and was expected to be sucky for a short period. The greens should be back in two or three weeks. It doesn't look like green situations they have had in the past...although it did when transition first started. They lowered their prices while the greens are transitioning. They have been repairing bunkers one at a time...there has definitely been improvement there but plenty more to do. It has the potential to be a nice course.

And I remember our conversation earlier this year where I questioned the overseeding. LINK

It has potential to be one of the best in the state layout wise. I don't understand why they don't get the course into good shape, they'd have to run people off so many people would want to play out there. Another thing, I can't believe the residents of the neighborhood let it get that bad. It has to affect their property values

quote:They should have never got rid of the range. Beaver Creek being in better shape with a better facility (clubhouse, range, etc) and cheaper didn't help play to start. But rather than trying to go after the country club golfer, they tried to compete for the frequent hacker. Had they kept it nice and worked on membership while bringing in public play with lunch specials or the like, they would have thrived. But ownership and management problems got in the way.

Are you saying Beaver Creek's green fees are cheaper than Copper Mills now?

No. This was before as Copper started to fall. You could play Beaver for $30 while Copper was charging more than twice that at the time. Now, it's basically reversed. Beaver charges as much as $55 on the weekends and you can easily get on Copper for half that.

Got it. I drove by Beaver Creek last week and the course looked great.

They tried but couldn’t afford it...similar to what happened at the bluffs.
The range closing was a pretty sore subject up here. It was due to greed by a developer that could make money by putting a bunch of houses on it rather than caring about the golf courses and club which made the neighborhood attractive to begin with. The residents and golf course were against it from the start and fought it as long as they could.

Yep I miss those days with cheap golf. We used to play copper when it was “primo” for $20 on weekdays with a member. It was the best deal in the state. Love that course...played beaver a few weeks back after not playing there for a while and we paid $38 on a Wednesday afternoon...I almost choked lol

The bluffs has way more to do with mother nature. Copper is simply from neglect. It's totally different in my opinion. What has happened at the bluffs is unfortunate, but what has happened at copper is simply on management/ownership.
