I am heading to Nooga in a couple months and am Looking for somewhere new to play. I'm sure I'll get a round in at Moccasin Bend like always, but I came across Bear Trace on google and figured I would poll the golf board to see how it is. Any other rec's in the area? Thanks in advance

It’s a good course. Haven’t played it this year but usually in good shape. Some elevation changes and some lake views make it interesting enough.
If you don’t mind a drive, Sweetens Cove is worth it. Maybe 30-40 mins from downtown. I wouldn’t think twice about going there over Bear Trace, which is also a drive from downtown.

Don't mind driving a bit at all. We'll be staying on signal, we have a good little ride down into the valley before we do anything anyway. Thanks for the rec. I'll check it out.

Bear Trace is great. Course is kept in great shape, you catch some wildlife, and it's a fun layout. But with that being said....
Sweetens is a golf experience. Been playing it since it opened. I played it 4 times around the first time. Super worth the drive! And if you're really ambitious, play Sweetens 9 then Sewanee 9 for a full 18 of some amazing golf. Sweetens in the valley, Sewanee on the mountain. Both are architectural gems.
Rob Collins, the architect of Sweetens, is out at the course in the "clubhouse" half the time. Patrick is out there otherwise. Both are great guys. Shooting the shite with them is half the fun of the course.
It's been featured in the New York Times, GolfWeek Top 100 Modern #59, and has a cult following of golf course architecture nerds.
Go play Sweetens!

Or drive to Huntsville and I’ll get you on at Canebrake Club.
