Congrats to him.... but -8 has been done a lot in majors, but at par 72 courses. It's a par 70 course...

Now if it happened at a par 72 course, I'd be ecstatic that it finally happened.

Agreed. Congrats to him, 62 is awesome. But is it better than shooting 63 on a 72?

All majors should be par 72

Then people would complain about how many under par each player was.

I was about to say. 5 weeks ago TD was in a tizzy about someone shooting 272.

Easier to make birdies when you have 2 more par 5's. I would say a 62 on a par 70 and par 72 is pretty even. Bogey is more in play on a 70 because of the less par 5's because these guys will hardly ever make bogey on a 5 even with a penalty a lot of times.

I'm going to disagree with you on this one.

I've been arguing with people all day.

I'll ask you the same question I ask them. If we make a bet that I'll pay you $100 the moment you shoot a 62, are you going to go play a par 72 or par 70?

I get that the extra par 5s make birdie easier and your score in relation to par would be better. But the numerical score would come out much better on a par 70.

Was it a great round, absolutely. Proud of him. And you can't really compare the rounds, because of different eras. But this is the same thing with the 59s on par 70s. It isn't as impressive as doing it on a par 72. And I would use an IMO there, but I think that only applies when there is a valid opinion that opposes mine.

I think it's a little easier on a 70, but not by much. As much as it is about making birdies it's about not making bogies. On a par 70 with 2 more par 4's the chance of making bogies increases and and the chance of making biries decreases. If you are playing completely lights out and stuffing it everytime then it's a little easier on a par 70, but if you make any mistakes they are amplified.

Again I think it may be a bit easier on a par 70, but the margin is really, really slim. One bad hole on a 70 and it's near impossible to get to 62 where as on a 72 one bad hole isn't going to disqualify you.

62 is a tremendous score without a doubt. But is a 62 on a par70 course better than a 63 on a par 72? I don't think so.

This makes absolutely zero sense. If you make a bogey on a par 70, you have to make 9 birdies. If you do it on a par 72, you have to make 11.

It isn't about making birdies v bogies. It's about making 4s and 3s and 5s.

Let's walk it back to a single hole. I'll give you $100 if you can make a 4. Would you rather play a par 3, par 4, or par 5? And please don't respond using the words birdie or bogie.
