56 or 58
If you had to choose one to learn first which one would it be? I’m wanting to purchase and learn one of these clubs really well and needing some opinion of which one would you go with first? I’ve hit a 56 a few time and liked it.

Doesn’t matter, wedge degrees are about eliminating gaps in your yardage.

If you are gonna have ONE wedge, 56 has more versatility

re: 56 or 58
What degree of bounce?

10 or more helps out of greenside bunkers.

Less can help from thin lies.

Go get fit.

Most SWs are 56 already. I’d look at a 60. Also, you have room for 3 more clubs. What’s your handicap, and how far/consistently do you hit your longer clubs - you’ve got room for a hybrid or 5w that may benefit you.

re: 56 or 58
Just started getting into the 90’s. I can hit the driver consistently 225ish, can get it further but rather stay in fairways and set myself up decent. I’ve thought about a hybrid.

re: 56 or 58
I would really look at getting something easy to hit between the 4i and 3w, like the hybrid, to help close that distance gap. Also on the wedges, most PWs are 45 degrees or so - and SW is around 56 - so that's a huge gap. I'd also look for something in between there.

No question, I would get the 56*

With a 56* Sand wedge, you can always increase the loft by opening the club up.

I use a 56 and a 60. I use the 60 in the bunkers primarily because I am better taking a full swing than a half.

The 56* is far more versatile than any other wedge in my opinion.

re: 56 or 58
My gaps are 47-51-54-58

54 is high bounce, 58 is low.

Depending on the bounce a 56 and 58 can be completely different clubs for different purposes.

If you have neither I'd go 56. 58-64 degrees can be cruel mistresses.

Eta: just noticed your makeup. You SW is probably in the 56 neighborhood. You might be better served getting a 50 or so to gap between it and the PW

54/60 here, but have a gap I need to fill between 54 and PW, so about to grab a 50.

re: 56 or 58
My current wedge setup is 46/52/58/64.

If I was buying new wedges today, I'd probably go 50/54/58. My 64 is fun to hit, but it really doesn't get much use. It's only in the bag as a 14th club since I don't carry a 3 wood.

re: 56 or 58
I can't play without a 58. Since my sets almost always have a 50* gap wedge, 56 has never fit in with any set I've played.

re: 56 or 58
Depends on what other clubs are in your bag. For your only wedge? I’d say 56

I sucked bad with my 58 for the first 3 months using it before I learned how to use the stupid thing. Now I use it very often. It's my 100 yard and in club.

I have a 57 now. First time with this loft in the bag. I enjoy it.

re: 56 or 58
I always find that my "Vokey-type" wedges don't go as far the wedges included in the set for the same loft. So I went with 49-53-57 to lessen the gap between PW and the 49. Check out the Hogan wedges, which are the old SCOR wedges. They're great, and you can order any loft. I also got graphite shafts, which has good feel and gave me a little more distance.
