Been looking into this game for a while, at 35% off figure I'll go ahead and get it.

Anyone played it?

I have it, and highly recommend it if you enjoy turn-based strategy. The combat is similar to the Heroes of Might & Magic series, and the procedurally-generated world makes every game different. It reminds me a little of the Mount & Blade games but in 2D. One note though, it is HARD, so expect to lose over & over, even on Easy settings. It doesn't feel cheap though, and every loss is a learning experience.

Are there quests and a narrative at all or just sort of a try to get further each time without dying each time thing?

Yes, you pick up quests (contracts) in the towns on the map, and you have to balance the risk of losing your guys versus the rewards for completing the contract. Your guys can get injured (sometimes permanently) and if they die, they're gone for good. Your band of guys kind of create their own story depending on what you do. There are also late-game crises to overcome (if you make it that far).
