I love B&K, had both Nintendo games. They totally deserve the respect, but honestly, there are dozens of characters I'd want over them in Smash. Plus, the franchise is kind of dead
That's a bit of a stretch.
According to VGChartz, Banjo has sold somewhere around 9 million or so games lifetime, all games and that's including the Gameboy off shoots.
Super Mario Odyssey alone sold 9.6m copies. Sonic 2 - 6.0m all on its own. Crash 2 8.0m on its own. Banjo is nowhere near that class.

Pokémon does have 9 reps to be fair. I could see them leaving out this generation’s Pokémon, since only Decidueye I think is worthy.
