Also, to show how much of a loser Luigi really is, he is just getting Mario's sloppy seconds.
Daisy was originally Mario's chick but he dumped her. Devastated and depressed, she got into drugs. After a long bout in rehab, she returns to find Mario dating some blonde skank.
She then shoots for the next best thing, Luigi the boy wonder.
