Yeah those two will set you up for awhile.
Look over at the BSC lot exchange on sc4devotion, and find lots made by the user "simgoober". everything from real life stores to new school options, and they all use basically the same dependency packs so they are easy to track down and install.

i think most simcity players prefer a modded SC4 over anything else at this point. I never played XL, because it wasnt from Maxis.

Cities XL is ok. Feels a bit unfinished. Also the trading system is a complete disaster. Still miles better than the new Sim City. I don't remember SC4 well enough to compare it to that.

Tom is right, XL is a good game but a bit raw.
The only thing I can figure out with the reviews is that they aren't looking at it beside 4. Not looking at how the game regressed, just grading based on what it is.

the launch is terrible and the game has many flaws itself but using metacritic(or amazon which im sure is just as low) as some kind of evidence of anything other then people raging about DRM is pointless.

EA ran 3 betas to test severs and still end up with this clusterfrick. check the other link, maxis dev called it the worst launch ever.
they did some good things with this game, but i have no doubt EA slashed budget and production time knowing full well they were going to put out a crap product and just "fix" it later. if this goes poorly enough it will be the final simcity we ever get.

The game itself is really fun. I haven't had any problems connecting either.. I seem to be one of the few.
