My desktop shows black screen..
Posted by ClampClampington on 10/18/17 at 11:19 am00
It takes 30 mins to pull up the main login menu and after I login,I see my background image forever with no icons and a constant wheeling cursor. Nothing ever appears. I'm computer Illeterate. I've had a check disk message appear earlier I think from cold stopping my computer multiple time trying to fix the issue, but it won't appear anymore. I never view pron on my desktop, (my iPhone may or may not be a different story). Is this a virus? Should i take it into a store? Any tips from the tech crowd?

Sounds like your hard drive is failing.

Booted up to this a couple months ago.
Black screened on bootup on last Dell when I went to work in Dallas temporarily (about a year) and left stuff at my La. house. Did some hard fixing routines and was able to salvage it eventually but would only run a day or so before I'd have to redo the fixes. Was able to salvage the data that way anyhow when swapped to new HDD.
ETA: Get a cheap external drive from local WalMart/BestBuy/etc. to save what ya got if you have it running now. Can then drag n drop onto new internal HDD and not lose your stuff.
