I always prefer scorched earth tactics and preemptive warfare.
Just get rid of everyone and there is no one left to praise this game.

I hated the first 6-8 hr that I played ME1. I was not invested in the characters, the powers seemed worthless, and I thought teammates dying in combat killed them for good. This lead to a lot of unnecessary restarts. I know it sounds silly, but when they sell the game as your actions can choose who lives or dies I thought they were talking during regular combat too.
I also had trouble deciding if I wanted to be a paragon or renegade.
I flat gave up on the game, and I didn't play it for several months. After reading up on ME2, I finished the first game using a new mentality. I was really glad that I did.
ME2 was awesome, and I loved the new combat system.
Even though it is unpopular, I really liked ME3. Sure the ending leaves you with a WTF feeling, but I just enjoy the overall story of the games.

Even with the ending it is by far the best trilogy of games I have ever played.

I really enjoyed the characters, and the overall feel of the universe. I've read rumors of making spinoff games possibly using some of the alien races.
I think a Garrus storyline could be a lot of fun.
