Looking for an FPS RPG to play. Any suggestions?

My most recent:
Mass Effect (all of them)
Borderlands 1&2
Fallout 3 and New Vegas
I was hoping for something more military oriented. Borderlands was fun, but too cartoonish for me. Mass Effect was awesome, but less customizable than i wanted. Fallout was the shite. Looking for another RPG/Action/FPS.
I am downloading Planetside 2 right now, so I'll see how that goes.

Yeah I've played those as well.
Skyrim i enjoyed except the game AI didnt progress enough. My biggest two issues with that game were once you got Dragon Rend (i think that's what it was called) and got into the late game you could just rape any dragon or challenge presented to you, and once i killed like the only dragons ever and saved the whole world random guards and people still treated you like shite.
The first Fable is one of my favorite games I've ever played for that reason. The AI responded to your accomplishments. The RPG aspect was awesome. Then it just got progressively worse until that abortion of a game Fable 3 turned out to be.

May seem like a silly question, but did you change the difficulty to expert or w/e it's called in Skyrim?

Yep. And on borderlands as well. Both those games were fun as shite.

This really breaks my heart.

Far Cry 3. Zero replayability, but once you start, you won't be able to turn it off until you finish it.

They said a pc version would spread themselves too thin. I think it would be much easier to make for pc and next gen instead of next gen and current gen like they are doing. Perhaps the sales numbers makes more sense to make for current gen though.

Looks like you've played most of the mainstream stuff. You might want to check out Alpha Protocol by Obsidian Entertainment, the same developer as "Fallout: New Vegas."
It's one of those games that was lambasted by critics when it was initially released but has gotten a bit of a cult following as a supposedly flawed gem.
For $7.50, its current price on Steam, it might be worth a shot.

Just seems like a game that could really flourish on the PC. Then again, what game wouldn't?

All FPS are RPGS singple player wise, you are in a story playing a role, thus Role Playing Game.
That being said.
Resistance 1 and 2 rocked my sox.
Killzone 1-4 is great.
Bio shock I heard was a good one.
Binary is a really well made third person shooter like mass effect.

You are playing some sort of role in nearly every single player game ever made.

On PC? These recommendations are FPS with a little RPG factor here and there, but like RPGs it kills it with atmosphere. Metro2033 and Metro: Last Light
Also, if you've been playing without mods FO3 and NV could get completely new play-throughs.
Again, not strict RPGs but you could also check out Dishonored and Deus Ex.
FPS is synonymous with shooter, generally speaking, and that's almost always where its strengths are be: game mechanics like shooting, mobility, etc. An RPG can have all of those things too but its primary goal is immersion, to tell a story. So you get great character and environmental detail, dialogue, character & NPC development, etc.
Sure, you're "role-playing" anytime you're playing a game but they are distinct genres.
