Was waiting for this board to tell me what other outlet is lying to us.
They aren't "lying," per se, but the government saying it doesn't address works of fiction isn't the same as the government saying it doesn't care.
It is quite obvious that at least some within the Japanese government very much care about this issue, as IGN reported just last week. LINK
quote:
The Japanese government has called for an investigation due to historical inaccuracies in the upcoming game. Satoshi Hamada, a member of the House of Councillors, stated that he is considering having the government look into the game's negative reaction to its historical inaccuracies. Hamada highlighted several distortions of Japanese history, such as the use of Chinese architecture instead of Japanese, and criticised the depiction of a low-ranking retainer sitting at the same level as a prominent daimyo like Oda Nobunaga. He also criticised Ubisoft for not addressing these historical errors.
quote:
Hamada commented on the portrayal of Yasuke, an African-born retainer who served Nobunaga, noting that the limited historical details about him are exaggerated and treated as real. He also tweeted about cultural appropriation and other concerns regarding Yasuke's representation.

what i posted earlier
quote:
Sankei reports that NHK Party representative Satoshi Hamada formally asked Japanese government ministries to comment on Assassin's Creed Shadows. Hamada reportedly cited concerns over historical inaccuracies featured in the new Ubisoft game.
Responding, the Japanese foreign ministry said it simply wasn't their concern
quote:
What's more, the NHK Party is so small it's virtually insignificant in the grand scheme of Japanese politics - the group's status as a political party was revoked earlier this year in January when the Otsu wing of the National Diet expelled two members.
As per the tweets I also posted, Hamada's request was more or less grandstanding, not an actual effort to see something done.

ETA- Damn I hope you never or have never run a business because that’s a terrible mentality to have. “I don’t care what my customers think. Eat this shite sandwich I made for you and be happy because I make shite sandwiches. That’s what I do.”
I think the point is it's such a small group of people making the noise, all Ubisoft is going to do is let them know that they are heard, but considering they didn't actually mention specifics about the uproar, it's clear they don't feel the Yasuke character needs to change at all.

Small number of people
Keep telling yourself that comforting lie. Do you do it like the journalist who say the same thing and then wonder why 1000s of people lose their jobs and studios go under at never before seen rates. A lot of this can be hidden because most of these companies are held by bigger companies but it’s absolutely not a small number of people; it is CRUSHING their revenue, the DEI hires are the first ones chucked out the door when lay offs come, and venture capital is getting more and more stingy in this economy so you have to like actually sell something people want.
If you truly believe you’re in the majority of people who want progressive politics or woke shite in video games you’re a naive fool. It’s overwhelmingly unpopular. The numbers bear this out.

start backing this stuff with actual sources instead of repeating the same party lines over and over
you guys seems to think this is a reality, but "go woke, go broke" rarely actually happens

I never claimed to want it. I'm just not a snowflake when I come across it. Tell a good story, make a good game, unless it's COMPLETELY over the top issues that I don't care for, I don't really care, and so does a majority of gamers if we're being honest. We like to make a lot of noise, but more or less these games still get bought.

I can’t have a serious conversation with someone who thinks the injection of “woke” being timed with constant shite games, so many studios closing, setting records for lay offs in development, but thinks it’s making money
and wants me to present him some pie chart breakdown of how much injected capital has to make up their enormous windfall in losses.

that post is kind of proof you're talking out of your arse

God damn stop slobbing on ubis cock. Regardless of fiction/alt history they're doing w/ the game its going to be dogshit like all ubisoft games so idk why you're even bothering to keep this long arse argument going with everyone.
FYI, there are tons of cool black manga/anime characters everyone loves. Let people be critical of obvious dogshit woke garbage. The game will blow arse regardless of how many critics praise it.

When you think about how many copies this will sell, kind of is.
Look, I'm doing you guys a favor. A big part of growing up is being able to interact with people you don't necessarily agree with. Most of you are failing. Nappy and I can have a discussion, no problem.
This is practice

You rang.
I'm not jumping into this one but you already know we disagree haha we could disagree over some beers any day.
I’d probably care more if I was Japanese.

Are you sure that’s all it is? Or are they just too far along in development to revamp the entire game seeing as how yasuke is one of the two main characters and their release is planned for 4 months from now?
They have to stand by it now. They are clearly in damage control mode otherwise they wouldn’t have put out a 4 page apology

It will sell a lot of copies.
It won't sell enough.

It's an apology that says nothing and, honestly, they shouldn't have bothered with. It's just pandering to people who aren't going to change their mind anyways.

You're at least right about this point. Their statement contradicts itself multiple times and shows that they know they screwed up. They made the whole thing worse.
Posted on 7/24/24 at 4:34 pm to sicboy
Pandering to get people that might have been turned off by it to get back in line and maybe think about buying it again? Why would they do that? Make the game not be as big of a bust as it looks like it will be due to public sentiment about it? Kinda like the recent Ubisoft earnings call where they tried to say it’s “among the most awaited games in the industry” and reflects a “really strong positive community sentiment” but wouldn’t talk about any pre order numbers.
To me this all screams damage control but tomato/tomahto I guess. You’re being willfully ignorant about the intent of the letter because you’ve got about 8 gallons of Ubisoft jizz on your face at this point

Ubisoft as a company has put themselves into such an awful financial situation they’re essentially going all in at the roulette table in Outlaws and Shadows. Outlaws is hard to predict to me because people love Star Wars shite still and we are coming off the last two Star Wars brand games by respawn being really good but it looks like shite Shadows however I’m extremely confident in saying it won’t even come close to what they usually expect and get from AC. Worst case I’d say 50% Valhalla cash. I think they’re fricked.
