Our son wants the Disney Infinity Star Wars for Christmas, but unfortunately we only have the original WII and it's not compatible..

We're looking into the WII U and an X Box 360, what is the better system, and what would be easier for a 6y/o...?

Wii U by a mile IMO. Kid-centric games and you get the gamepad which can be played away from the console.

Mario-maker, mario kart.

No brainer IMO, and I don't own one.

Man for a 6 y/o the wii U would be $$ me and my wife had a great time beating mario 3d and another mario game together.

Wii U, but that console is pretty much on its last leg. I wouldn't buy it until the bottom falls out, which is probably around the corner.

I would skip 360 since it's about to be extinct (unless you just want to play this single game and have to rebuy a console in the next year or two).

Wii U is a decent choice, but that console has a similar problem as the 360 as it'll stop getting these releases in about 2-3 years.

Does he have any friends that have consoles? The best choice is what they have so that they can play together.

Yes, but I don't know which ones...

We're also considering an XBox 1..

The best thing for your wallet in the long run is getting an Xbox 1 for him because odds are you'll be buying one in 3 years or so anyways for him

Man I couldn't imagine having a console at the age of 6 though. Wow times have changed

Get the Wii U

It's not going anywhere anytime soon. Not sure why people keep saying that

That was right around the time I got my first console.

I mean, it's not like there aren't games for that age group.

We're also considering an XBox 1.

That's certainly a lot more future proof and it'll always have Skylanders, Disney Infinity, and Minecraft (as will PS4).

Only because Nintendo has already announced a successor and they have a history of abandoning their old consoles once the new one releases.

and then your wallet will never have money.

Dont see that franchise having a long life anyway..

Any Nintendo console is pretty much what you should be going for for that age

Back in the day consoles were pick up and play much like a Gameboy but that's beside the point.

Good luck OP, you need it

Dude, I could barely understand what to do with Super Mario on the SNES when I was 6. What makes you think that a kid can work a more complex game?

A basketball goal. A backpack and tent. A little too young for firearms, but maybe get started with an air rifle.

Running shoes. A jungle gym. Anything but a GD video game console.

The Wii universe is both targeted at younger kids and focuses on staying active. The game library isn't nearly as extensive as the big 2, but I would go that way until middle school, to be perfectly honest with you.

Wii U for sure.

Just be aware that when he wants you to play Smash Brothers that means you stand there and don't move while he beats the shite out of you.

All indications are the new Nintendo system is coming out next year. The Wii U is probably the best choice at this time but if he really gets into gaming he is going to want a new system in two years. If you are okay with that get a Wii U. If you want something future proof get a Xbox or a PS4 You whole family will probably have fun with The Wii U for a little while.
