FO3 provides a much more enjoyable experience

Of course it's all based on personal preference but I kige this. I enjoyed the more helpless feeling I got from FO3. Human camps were sparce and for the most part (for me) human interaction was rare too. It truely felt like a survival game.

I gave NV one heck of a try. Put in about 40hrs but I never really felt the survival aspect I craved. However, story did seem a but stronger.

FO3 is a fine game. But it fails in that it has one of the shittiest MQ's in the history of open world gaming, and that it is not a Fallout title. Not to mention that FO3 is waaaaay fricking easier than NV. Hell, it is the second easiest Bethesda game I have played, behind Skyrim. But at least Skyrim has rich lore and varied environments.

With mods you can get all of the benefits of NV in FO3. As for story lines, to be perfectly honest they're really irrelevant in games like these. Games like Oblivion, Skyrim, FO3, and NV have truly horrible main stories. You don't play these games for a good story arc or deep NPCs. In fact, I would argue that these games would largely be entirely irrelevant if it weren't for the mod communities. These games are basically simple, basic in all respects games that thrive because they provide great tools for modding.

That's one of my biggest issues with games such as these. They require a ton of mods just to make them enjoyable because the game developers place little emphasis on story, character development, etc. So I'll actually agree with you that FO3 doesn't have a great main quest, but neither does NV. These games always lack good storylines.

Many have disappointing MQ's, but all listed have immensely better MQ's than FO3. It is unfulfilling, short a hell. . .and ultimately self-defeating.

Any of those other games leave you with a sense that you did something. . .you affected some change.

The MQ of FO3 should have been a sidequest.

NV has a badass epic MQ, with a meh ending.

So if I fundamentally change the game to be like another game, it can be as good as that game?

Well yeah. . .

These games are both popular on console. To say they need a bunch of mods to enjoy is just silly.

This just tells me you've never played a heavily modded version of either game.

The game is about exploration. Fallout 3 has a much better environment and it's overall just a better place to explore. The MQ in Fallout 3 is lame but it is supposed to be secondary. Although I do agree the MQ in New Vegas is better, and I like how you can choose factions. But overall, Fallout 3 is better.

Okay, I'll play along with you a little bit. A lot of Bethesda games have meh story lines and HORRIBLE voice acting. They're released broken, and turned over to the mod community to fix.

And you would be wrong.

I just didn't care for having the Vegas strip in NV. The sense of isolation is what really drew me in to 3.

I just know that one of these days I'm going to give fo3 ONE more chance. 0/2 so far. Idk what will change but maybe my tastes for games will have. I've been enjoying RPGs much more this year than in the past
