Definitely. You're absolutely right about the Galaxy games (I've only played the first, but I'd imagine the second is just as good, if not better). That level of refinement is rarely seen in games these days.

I think Nintendo games do often have an uncommon degree of polish. A lot of small independent developers release "their babies" the same way, though, having worked on a project for years and a lot of testing before daring to put it out there for the piranhas.

Chameleon Twist (n64), Mischief Makers (n64), Mystical Ninja (n64), Tomba (ps1), Mega Man X (SNES), Toe Jam & Earl (sega, to this day still fun to play two player mode), Cool Spot (sega), Pugsley (sega, most have probably never heard of this game but it is a blast), Booger Man (sega)
