Yeah, I've gotten to the point where if a Civ is moving in on a plot of land that I want (and is near me) I capture that fricking settler consequences be damned. It has led to my demise once or twice

I like playing as the us because you get half off buying tiles and that helps grabbing resources early on to frick the other civs

Love this, forming a culture wall and denying open borders is crucial to limiting opposing growth. Just be prepared for them to attack you over it

oh good ol gandhi and I had a nice little fight over that last time I played

I really need to learn the mechanics of telling another culture to frick off. I am really too nice.

He is so terrible. A pacifist that gets pissed off by everything and will declare war quicker than any other leader. I could never negotiate peace with him either. He always wanted like 80% of my empire.

It doesn't bother them as much as you think. I was the same way for a while. Outward aggression will piss them off but denying aid, declining wars, and turning down a declaration of friendship isn't a huge deal as long as you aren't overly hostile to begin with. If you're already uneasy with them then it can be the straw that breaks the camels back.

the Germans are the worst ally. those bastards constantly drag you into war

frick China. The one run that I use Japan they're all super pacifist. I start a run with 'Murica and they declare war on me like 8 turns into the game. Snatch up New York and it takes me like 20 turns to get it back. So now I'm UBER behind on my development since I had to exclusively pop out an army for about 15 straight turns with 3 cities. Took New York back then made those bitches pay me to get a peace treaty. Chinese fricks.

You'll more than likely get enough pointy sticks to take on anyone that tries to bully you early game (fricking China), and if you keep your focus on military strength, should have a wide enough gap that people won't frick with you until you come riding up to their doorstep.
No kidding, it's tough as shite to grind out capitols on maps that aren't island-centric.
ETA: Also, if you can get exclusively coastal cities, do it. The Navy is the bomb in this game and coastal cities are 1000000x easier to defend.

Damn. Saw this a day late and thought it was tonight.
Dumb questions: Do you have to buy and install Civ 5 for the expansion to work or is the expansion stand alone?
Do you also have to get the first expansion to use the second expansion?

From what I have read, no. All the key/necessary elements from G&K are in BNW.

That is a good question, I mean G&K introduces religion and it is a focal point of the world congress bit in BNW.

I paid $60 for SimCity. I paid $25 for Civ V Gold Edition (10 DLC). 2k>EA

Now. Would be my first steam purchase. Worth the hassle?

No doubt. One of my favorites. If you don't get BNW then download the NiGHTS mod.

The Shoshone (Native American BNW civ) are so awesome. They get this warrior/scout unit that chooses what bonus you get from ancient ruins. There is a cooldown for the bonuses (so you can't pick three free technologies in a row) but I got three in one early game sequence. That and they get more tiles when you initially settle.

They're pretty solid. I only have 50 or so turns with them but they're fun. They've been a good ally for me too.

It's really fun to play "World Police". Fitting enough, I'm 'Murica. Korea and Russia were settled to the south of me and France was northeast of me. Japan got too big for their britches and started overtaking everyone near me. Completely wiped out Korea and Russia and was winning a war against France, all the while talking mad shite to me. But they never went to war with me because my military could probably take on the 3-4 countries at the same time right now. They talked enough shite and I invaded south and started cleaning house. Gave two cities back to Russia and got Korea back on the map. Japan wants peace but I'm not stopping until everyone has their own cities again. Literally everyone in the world except Germany hates Japan so no one is getting mad or calling me a warmonger for doing it, either. It's perfect.
Moral of the story: Don't talk shite to 'Murica
