I played on/off (about a 50/50 split haha) since PS2 release in 04 or 05 and am prolly gonna reactivate in march. i last played in like dec. '09 so i hear a lot of it is really different and easy mode is on now. anyone else here played and/or thinking about going back?
Thought it would make a nice change from BLOPS threads, but I prolly won't get many responses

I played on PC for about a year... stopped at about level 40 when I realized the game required way too much farming... I would sit and farm for like 12-16 hours straight.. not fun.
eta: played a mithra blm/whm/smn

Yeah, everything in it used to be a major timesink. I heard the new stuff recently has made it a lot more fun though. I played a loldragoon as my only 75, caught so much shite

I played a level 40 mithral?(the cat people) ninja/warrior but also played it as a beastmaster when I wanted to solo.
Quit playing after I thought about how much time I'd wasted with it. I love MMO's but have a somewhat addictive personality and I get carried away with them. I don't play Wow because I'm sure it'd be the end of my relationship and any social life I have.

I'm kind of the same way. I used to play it a lot and spending so much time on it is the reason i quit the first time. Now when i play stuff like this its much more casually (with some exceptions...haha)
I like FFXI cuz im a final fantasy junkie but the job system was really well done IMO. Makes you much more versatile instead of needing a new character for a new class like other MMOs (at the cost of needing a shite-ton more time to level everything up
)
ETA: Granted, the rest of the game was rage-mode hard before, but like I said, i've heard the new updates have made it much better. Plus, SE's customer support is shite, but what else is new

Yes, I recently reactivated my accounted just because they made the game less time-consuming and more low-man friendly. Let me tell you, it's an entirely different game. It used to be a chore, some of the shite they put you through in that game was ridiculous. But now, you can literally grind to 30 (Which is twice as fast now, they just doubled EXP in old areas) and key whore in abyssea to 90 and that would take you probably a week to two weeks of very little playing time. It's very possible to play it casually now (That's why I quit in the first place, it was way too time consuming for a video game).

Very nice, that's pretty much what i've heard since talking with some friends this week. I logged into FFXIAH.com and facepalm'd at how out of date my gear will be when I get back on
What server you play on? I was on Fairy but it merged with Sylph, so that's where i'll be
ETA: Not looking forward to dropping $30 on abyssea but it definitely seems worth it

Shiva, and I'd go with just one abys DL at first to see if you like it.

The entire game and expansions are selling for $9.99 on Steam right now.
Not sure this link will work but if not, just install Steam (if you don't already have it) and check the store for Fina Fantasy, and it'll come up..

I always wanted to try this one being a long time FF fan, but I never could convince myself to take the MMO plunge.

I played for about a month back in 2005. Square Enix is clueless about what makes an enjoyable and accessible MMORPG, and is also inept when it comes to designing for the computer. I refused to patronize them further. From the looks of it, they somehow managed to make XIV even more of a punchline.

Was a 75 Taru BLM on Seraph. Played off and on since release. Quit for good about 2 years ago. 2 years ago it was a completely different game than it was at launch. Now it's incredibly different.
I wish SE knew what the frick they were doing. They ruined FFXIV.

If they have FFXIV fixed by PS3 release I may give it a shot, but it's just a total mess right now. I liked XI back in the day because of the community more than the game. I had a bunch of friends back when i played regularly. Luckily, a bunch of them are coming back around the same time i will so that'll be fun
I still can't believe they learned nothing from XI when making XIV. No AH? What in the frick?

They fricked up XIV in about as many ways as possible. Ridiculous requirements to get it running well, little to no end game and screwed up leveling system*, and the AH, yeah. There's a reason it's still not subscription based last I checked.
What server are you on for XI? eta: Nevermind, see you're on Sylph from an earlier post. I'm on Lakshmi (was Garuda before merger)
*check out Kaeko's blog (kanican.livejournal.com) for some number crunching on XIV, and some posts on how leveling was after 20 until a recent patch.
