What do you think is the best restaurant in Baton Rouge?

I can go to Rouj and assemble one of the finest meals anyone has ever had by picking and choosing bits and pieces. It will not be cheap. The waiter will likely think you're insane, unless it's the French guy. He gets it.

But... They get things wrong as often as they get them right.

For best food and never being disappointed, Gino's or Robertos. Gino's getting the edge for service. Roberto's getting the edge for gratuitous use of butter.

I will say this. The tiny Italian joint tucked across the street from Rouj had the nerve to sell me three crustinis with a tiny piece of pork belly on each... With a single blueberry adorning the pork. To look at, it's foolish. Ridiculous. Expensive. Pretentious. Crap.

But mother of God it was good. Idk if it was bone marrow on the toast. But it was truly a heavenly bite.

Maison LaCour

I have to give this place another try. Went for my birthday a couple years ago due to the hype, and we were the only people in the restaurant during peak time on a Thursday night. The lights were daylight-bright and there was no background noise or even music, so we awkwardly whispered while the server stood nearby.

Food was good from what I remember, but it was so awkward we left as soon as possible and went to drink wine somewhere else.

Yeah I thought the exact same thing. Went on a Friday night and there were so few tables the servers were annoyingly attentive. Too quiet and empty. Crappy “ambiance” or vibe or whatever you want to call it. I’d go back because the food was good but its definitely not a hang out sit and enjoy type place

Italian - Nino's, Gino's, Di Giulio Bros

Seafood - Parrains, Mansurs, French Market Bistro, Rouj Creole, Robertos, Eliza

French - Maison LaCour

Steak - sadly Ruth's is probably the best, Stabs is good but pretty pricey

Greek/Lebanese - Zorbas, Albasha

American - K Street Grill

I think The Merchant is the best mix of food, drinks, price, and atmosphere.

Chow Yum Phat is ridiculously good food. I doubt their atmosphere measures up but I don't plan on dining in any time soon.

Louisiana Lagniappe. Snapper en papillote is the best dish in the city.

I will not be nasty.

I just do not understand anyone ranking Ninos above Pinettas or Gino’s.

I don't get your take. Ruth's is a great experience.

Great steak, great sides, great service.

It's cool AF to hate on Ruth's, but don't act like it isn't good.

I was just listing some good restaurants for the OP. They weren't really intended to be in any order. I like Ninos more than Pinettas though.

Nino's food is better than Gino's.
Gino's atmosphere is better than Nino's.

I've only been to Pinetta's once, but it leaned more on the unclean side than the charming side for me. Plus, they dump sauce onto naked pasta to serve and that's a no-no.

I love Gino's, LL, but I had a conversation with Cong at Umami a few months ago.

He said that Nino's makes their own pasta and Gino's doesn't.

Do with that what you will. I don't care as my palate isn't refined enough to taste the difference.

Pinettas's is honestly gross. Too dusty.

I've always heard this as well! Nino's used to do a lunch deal back several years ago where you got a soup or a salad and a pasta or sandwich for $12. Their food is high quality and the options were not your standard spaghetti.

I'm really looking forward to tearing up some nigiri tomorrow morning!

[e]: I mean Saturday. Not sure what day it is.

Nino's has some off the menu specials that are usually phenomenal which is the only reason I would put it over Ginos. IF I want nice Italian, it's Ginos everytime though

One of these is not like the others. I wouldn't feed Pinettas to my dog.
