My GF got a slow cooker for Christmas and wants to make pulled pork this weekend.

I've looked up some recipes via interwebz but wondered if anyone on here had any recipes/methods/sauces to share?

Should I use BBQ sauce or just dry rub and use its own juices?

TIA

Lather it up with mustard and put your rub on pretty heavy. I use a pre-made rub form a spice shop in CO along with a little Tony's and brown sugar mixture. Smoke it unril internal temp of at least 195* for pulling. I like to use hickory wood.

i've recently slow cooked a BB with jalopeno slices and garlic shoved into slits on top with a half cup of slap yo momma dry rubbed all over it. You could prolly back off the the dry rub a bit. It was good and made nice sandwiches.

I braised some cabbage in the juice and it was good too.

Agree with Janky.

I left the rub on mine overnight in the fridge. I used Oakridge BBQ rub with apple wood for smoke. Pulled off at 195 degrees.

That looks amazing

But...I guess I wasn't clear. I meant a slow cooker as in a crock put. Not a smoker.

1 bottle of your favorite root beer
1 onion

after it's done-
Sweet Baby Ray's sweet and spicy bbq sauce

I thought he meant a smoker. It is called a crock pot not a slow cooker. Now, GFY.

sorry. I call it that.

quote:

A slow cooker, also known as a Crock-Pot (a trademark that may sometimes be used generically in the US, Canada and Australia) is a countertop electrical cooking appliance that is used for simmering, which requires maintaining a relatively low temperature compared to other cooking methods (such as baking, boiling, and frying)[1] for many hours, allowing unattended cooking of pot roast, stews, soups, "boiled" dinners and other suitable dishes.

Oops.

Oh well, at least you got to see what one smoked for 9 hours on a ceramic cooker looks like.

Have you ever put the BBQ sauce before while it cooks or do you always wait until after its done to add the BBQ sauce?

That wasn't directed at you. I guess technically you are right, but it is like someone asking if you want a coke (not a pop) but really meaning a soft drink of any kind.

This is a good one. I've done similar.
There's a recipe I have at home for a Mexican style pulled pork. Can't remember it exactly or find it online, but you cook the pork shoulder with garlic, carrots and onions. You then let it cool overnight and shred the meat, chucking out fat and bones and stir in chili powder and cumin. You get a ton of pork that's ready to reaheat for tacos, enchiladas, burritos, whatever....

It's all good. Insults here are pretty much assumed by me as sarcastic.....not so much on the OT.
