The before was just awful IMO.
Agreed, house was less than 10 years old and when you walked in the door it felt like a time machine back to the 80's, gold fixtures, oak grain everywhere. Wife hated it but I saw the potential within, was able to get a great deal due to it being on the market for so long due to other people being shyed off.

only thing I'm not fond of is the two different colors of granite
Its not for everyone, saw it in several magazines and we liked it. if building from scratch probably wouldnt have done it but since I had existing granite that I didnt want to replace and would be very tough to match we went this route. Island slab came from a friend who was doing similar remodel so I got a deal on it as well

I would leave it. Looks just fine to me.
ETA: Tboux's glaze looks really good. I would not stain darker.

I like taupe with black and I like the color choices you have on the splash behind the stove. I'd go with a taupe, smooth finish paint treatment that's the same color as the walls.
You have enough color going on.. Don't overload.

Tboux that looks great man
Okay friends I have gotten my head out of my arse about doing this myself. I will just save up a few pennies and pay to have this done after we get moved in and everything settles.
Im loving the white and I think my wife is leaning that way also. I think with the amount of light coming in, along with the white cabinets, the kitchen will be nice and bright.
I appreciate everyones feedback. I learned many things that I had no clue about. TD wins again

Whatever you do, paint the ceilings white.

I'm also a fan of white ceilings....though it's nice to have a white with undertones in a color related to the dominant tones in the room.

With 100% certainty the ceilings will be painted white. I close on Friday the 24th and I will have a painter in there that afternoon.

Tbooux, you had new door made or found doors to fit? Did you do the sand and glaze yourself? Any idea what brand/colors?

I had someone paint the existing ones, Originally was going to re-stain and would have replaced if so.
no sanding was required, 1st coat was an oil base primer, then white top coat, glaze was painted on then rubbed off, then a poly sealer as the last coat. Think I paid around $3500 for all the cabinets to be done (I had them paint the inside white as well which wasn't necessary but thought it would look better but added cost).
I can dig up exact color combinations as still have the leftover if interested. Shoot me an email <-- at gmail
ETA: the cabinets on either side my stove were custom built new as I tore out the old double oven and desk.
