The official state processed meat of Hawaii:

Cut into easy to cook, sandwich sized 1/4 inch slices:

Skillfully positioned on a butter toasted hoagie roll.

With a Potato Salad side serving:

And maybe a second layer of sodium rich goodness:

Artfully plated to assure eye appeal, because we first eat with our eyes.

The perfect gourmet meal

When head cheese and sweet breads or a pickled sowbelly sandwich from Cochin is not available:

Desert?

Almost finished before I remembered no photos had been taken.

Spam has never gotten its due. Thinly sliced grilled spam on Evangelin Maid bread with a bit of mustard is a guilty pleasure. I believe Spam is simply pork shoulder (with probably a bucketload of MSG and who knows what else).

I just did some looking. I always thought spam was like hot dogs. Random leftover parts of pigs and chickens. Apparently that is not so. Your thread just convinced me to try spam. I will probably pick up a can next time im at walmart. Any favorite recipes with spam from the f&d board?

I'll be honest. I've never had Spam. Never had the desire, but I guess it's something I need to try just to say I've done it.

That's what everyone thinks. It's shoulder meat I believe.

The best way to try Spam is exactly like MD posted: thinly sliced and fried, laid on bread with some mustard. I would skip the onions. Spam bread mustard. that's all you need. If you've never had it it tastes a lot like bacon if thinly sliced and fried.

I like my fried Spam sammiches with mayo. Never tried it with mustard, but the onions look like a great addition.

We popped open a can at the deer camp years ago. Tasted just like the luncheon loaf we used to buy for $1.29/lb at Piggly Wiggly. Never tried frying it though.

I've never had it either. I don't even know what it is. My mother just told me as a kid that it was disgusting and that was that.
