The Sloppy Taco - Lake Charles' First Food Truck
Posted by eyepooted on 12/1/15 at 11:36 am00
Lake Charles is late to the food truck scene with the first taco truck being up and running for only a few months now. With that being said, The Sloppy Taco has knocked it out of the park. This is the second time I've ate at the truck and both times have been flavor packed experiences.
Here's the menu
Today I got the Chipotle Shrimp Tacos and their new Asian Pork Tacos. The shrimp taco was out of this world good with lots of shrimp, a nice amount of slaw and sauce on top that had a nice heat to it. The little slices of fried green tomato on top were a nice addition.
The Asian Pork taco is their newest creation. When I opened up the wrapper it smelled just like sushi. The taco was good but I was expecting more of a Chinese flavor profile. The pork was cooked beautifully, nice and tender. It seems like they roasted it and then lightly fried it which gave the outside a great crunch.
Finally, as I was walking away they gave me a cup of corn and crab bisque to try. It was possibly one of the best cups of bisque I've ever had. It was the perfect consistency and full of crab meat. It was topped with a red pepper aioli and fried cauliflower. It had the perfect amount of spice as well... Just a little bite at the end.

Uhh. There is Mexiterranean on Lake Street across from Greengate. There was another Taco Truck on Common near Alamo 4-5 years ago that was awesome, but I think the health board ran them out of town. There is a BBQ Trailer in Westlake. A few of the restaurants around town have a truck that they sound out to events.
ETA: SloppyTacoTruck.com doesn't work. Where are they normally located?

The truck on Lake street stayed open for about 2 months. No one went to it. The truck is now for sale. The bbq trailer in Westlake doesn't move, thus not a real food truck. I'm assuming you're talking about Gattie's and Casa Mañana, in which both put prepared food on a truck and drive it to an event they are catering. That's not a food truck either.
The website does work and go to their Facebook page. They change locations daily. Their home base is on Kirkman street. It's next to Homsi's. I believe it use to be Good Eats?

Sounds good, but those prices are really high for tacos.
are they? $7-8 for 2 tacos made with high quality ingredients.
Go get taco bell, old man.

Is it for 2 tacos? the menu makes it seem like it's $7-9 per taco.

3 out of 4 say Tacos, so I assume it's plural. OP posted a pic of the shrimp tacos and it has 2 tacos.
At the end of the day food trucks are not designed to fill you up like the golden corral. They're made to bring you high quality ingredients in easy to eat format at a reasonable price.
This place seems like it's doing exactly what a food truck is suppose to do. Hope the succeed.

Well, the OP only has one of each in his pictures. Sorry but 7-9 for one taco is high. That is a fact. Even 3 out of 4 OT Ballers agrees.
