I just started drinking single malt scoth. I love Highland Park (12 year). Got any recommendations (< $45 a bottle)?

I get Glenfiddich 12 year at Sam's for about $32 a bottle. Haven't had the 15 year though.

i recommend trying it. it's not much more $$ for the 15 and it's a definite step up from the 12. nice complexity and it's not a huge peat/smoke bomb.

I love the Islay Malts for that Peaty-Smokey flavor.

Laphroig 10 is really good and while Peaty, not ridiculously so, when you start finding smaller or more 'craft' Islay malts is when you can hit real freaking smokefest.

HP 12 is a decent scotch. But HP 15 is a better, more smooth scotch and at $60 a good value. You can sometimes find it on sale for $50. Of course moving up to 18 yr old scotch is much better and much more $$. But like a wise hobo once told me "don't drink it if it can't vote"
