Ramen coming to Lafayette: Update 10/29
Posted by Degas on 8/10/18 at 2:01 pm70
The most authentic Vietnamese restaurant in Lafayette, Zen Noodles and Grill, has been sold, and will soon become a full blown ramen shop, Lafayette's first. Yes, there is Maeson Noodle House and other noodle places, but this will be the first venue to focus on Japanese ramen. Tao has a ramen dish, but it's a variation on the classic. I'm excited that I'll have this new option in my rotation. Word has it that the chefs are from Japan, which blows my mind because I only know of two Japanese people in Lafayette.
Zen Noodles and Grill will be open until sometime in October, then closed and converted to Ramen Noodles, opening in November.
ETA: Zen will be closing by the end of September (not into October), with the building closed for most of October during the transition.

I can't, for the life of me, figure out how Baton Rouge will support the frick out of sushi restaurants and pho joints, but we don't have a single Ramen house.
I want some ramen from a legit place specializing in ramen, dammit!

Dude’s getting worked up about a restaurant serving something that can be purchased at the local shop & save at $1 for 4 packs.

Welcome to 2015, Lafayette.

Maeson Noodle House
Terrible

Tried this and it was pitiful. Tasted like spicy V8 with Veg-All mixed in.
Granted, these two, and the one at Osaka, are the only "ramen" I have tasted, but they're not even close to Pho IMO. I've seen many on here say they prefer it to Pho, I guess I'll have to wait until a real Japanese version is here to make the final determination.
I still think Blu Basil/Saigon Noodles and Bangkok Thai are the best Asian cuisine in Lafayette. I didn't think much of Maeson or Tao.

I remember being bummed when Milwaukee didn’t have a ramen joint.... in 2013.

I remember a Filipino restaurant called Pinoy too, so to say that BR hasn't had ethnic restaurants isn't true. It's just hard to lure people away from Canes I guess.

I’m out west now there’s ramen everywhere. Can’t eat it unless it’s below 40 degrees out - it’s not summer food to me.
