Picked up Some Creole Tomatoes (pic)

Tomato, fresh mozzarella, homemade green onion vinaigrette, and some basil from the garden. Tomato was excellent. Perfect summertime lunch.

Mrs Rat and I are on our 2nd box. Our favorite thing to do with them is BLTs made on Hearty White bread.

I'm also having a decent crop of tomatoes this year, but they will fade fast since the heat is upon us and they've been in the ground since March.

I've got celebrity and black krim and they started off not so good with lots of them developing blossom end rot, but that passed and I've got a kitchen table with 15 tomatoes ripe or ripening and at least 30 more still on the vines.

Also my cucumbers, yard longs, Kentucky wonders, bell peppers and eggplants are doing great. My hot and super hot peppers are now showing peppers, but they need at least 2 more weeks to fully develop.

Okra is about 3 weeks out since I got a late start with them, but with 60 plants, I'll be up to my ears in okra before long.

I have got two Creole tomato plants that are full full, but none are ready yet. Can't wait to try them. They are never offed for sale in my area so I had to grow my own.

I haven't had a creole tomato since before Katrina that tasted like the creoles did before Katrina.

I have some creoles right now and had one last night. It was a good tomato, but didn't have that old distinctive creole tomato flavor. They are from Liuzza Farms.

Not a big fan of tomatoes, but that is beautiful. I would try it.

Yeah, when they are in full production mode, I'll be picking 50+ pods a day for several weeks before I pull them out the garden.

I make LOTS of gumbo during the year and often in pretty large quantities for parties, social events, etc. so much of it gets stewed down and frozen to use as needed.

I also love to grill and pickle it----and even though the Dr. hates it, I also love it fried along with other garden vegetables from time to time.

I do give a good bit of it away to family, neighbors and friends too, so none of it goes to waste-----just waist.

I also dry a few pods to save seeds for the next seasons planting and always save way more than I need, so I give some of that away too for folks to plant in their gardens.

I like both.

That would be a great Vic & Nattly cartoon for Bunny Matthews (RIP).
