I was going to suggest that too, but it's closed on Mondays and usually only open at night on Sundays unless there's a different schedule for Jazz Fest. In any event, the place is likely to be packed and they don't take reservations.

Don’t let this board turn you against the quarter. People like Fun bunch will make you think you’re hanging out in fat city. They will always give you the selfish perspective of someone who has lived in the area their whole life. For a visitor you should be excited and it should be explored

For every shite tourist trap there are 2 gems. You can kill a weekend eating and drinking and not leave. From upscale restaurants and bars to the more divey joints.

Plus you can walk to Frenchman and enjoy all it offers

Bunchie thinks FQ means walking up & down Bourbon street with a hand Grenade

Then he’ll tell you go walk down magazine street or take a street car ride or WW2 museum or some corny shite.

The FQ is by far the most interesting part of Nola. This coming from a local who said for years it was terrible solely because of the lameness that is Bourbon Street

Someone who's never been doesn't know that. So when someone says they want to go to the quarter, I ask why. most of the time it's because they want the bourbon shitfest experience.

99.99% of people that come to NOLA, that's what they do.

And then they complain about the city. The FQ is an absolute shithole if that's what you do, and that's what everyone does.

I try to get people out of the FQ, because every time I hear someone complain about their New Orleans trip, I ask them what they did and they spent all of their time in the FQ and on Bourbon.

A) I didn't, B) there is nothing corny about either of those things, although those wouldn't be high on my list for a first time visitor.

It CAN be an interesting place, but many many many tourists don't experience that.

But you and Gyno love to be contrarian. If everyone came on here extolling the virtues of the FQ, you two would be encouraging him to go uptown.

You can. The FQ CAN be awesome, but you have to do a lot of research. You have to spend your time on other streets besides Bourbon. Royal street can be great.

There are some amazing bars and restaurants. I love dive bars like Chart Room. I like Sylvain and Doris Metro. I still like Galatoire's even if it is passe.

The problem is that most tourists don't do the research and just wander, and those are always the experiences I hear that are the worst. That's why I encourage people to get out of that box and see some other (in my mind, better) parts of the city.

To me it would be like if someone came to NYC and just stayed around Time Square, or went to Paris and just walked down the Champs.

The bourbon shitfest will be for late night probably one night. The rest of the time we spend in the french quarter will be basically everything else.

Nah, I genuinely love the FQ. There’s many things to see and do, and Frenchman & WHD are both walkable. It really is hard to beat.

You admit there are things to do besides touristy shite. Shoot, I can spend a good 6 hours walking Royal street end to end. Guess I don’t understand shitting on it when there are plenty of things to do that don’t involve going to bourbon street or tourists traps

Great divey bars like lafites & chart room. Carousel bar, French 75, Sazerac bar are a walkable trio for classic Nola establishments. Live music is easily accessible. Just curious but where else in the city (or world) do places like this even exist, much less bundled up next to each other?

I don’t hate on uptown at all but for me it’s strictly eating & drinking & St Charles ave if you are into that. I actually don’t hate on any part of the city but when these threads come up & people say the FQ sucks they are giving bad information

I’m on mobile but I’ll post some of my favorites later.

That reminds me that Mr. B's is another possible lunch place in the FQ, but again, because of the dates you'll be there, I would suggest reservations. Definitely get a drink in the Carousel bar at some point. That's a good suggestion.

Is Bourbon still under construction and, if so, will that work still be going on in April? I thought I'd read it was going to take a very long time.

well, what do you think the people are asking for when they come here

Bunchie, thosee are the places id start to recommend. So why Is it so hard for you? Off the top of my head Irene's, Bayona, GW's, Italian Barrel, Cafe Amelie, Revolution, KPauls, Meauxbar, Eat, NOLA, Lafitte's, Carousel Bar, St Lawerence, Erin Rose, Tiki Tolecta, Molly's, Cosimo's, Copper Monkey and many more. You have no taste if you cannot enjoy the FQ and places like this.

Saying the quarter is a concentrated area of the city's best bars and restaurants is now a contrarian take? You shite on the FQ in every thread on here, an area enjoyed by many locals and well as millions of visitors. Maybe your "hot take" is the contrarian one

I never said it was

Who really gives a shite about areas of town when it's all walkable? You're going to go tell someone "stroll down Magazine St" and it's like 6 miles long

I’m coming to NOLA for the R&R marathon in Feb and we plan to spend a lot of time in and around the FQ.
I plan to go to Cafe Du Monde and Pat O’s too.
Dang.

I believe this thread was mostly about getting lunch while walking around the FQ during the day.
