Definitely want to order the cheesecake.
They have a pretty good fried chicken, and the stuffed quail is solid.
ETA:
Not at all. 1/2 the diners will be "properly" dressed, and the other 1/2 will be in t-shirt and shorts.

First time going tonight with the wife, surprisingly never been. Menu looks on point and reviews have been good from what I've seen. What are some good recs? Also how's the dress code/atmosphere like?
I planned on going for the Fourth of July, but I discovered yesterday that they will be closing for an extended holiday.
I hope you enjoy it. Everyone seems to think pretty highly of the place.

It's a cool place with a unique vibe. All recommendations above are spot on.

Similar place, but somewhat better (imo) is Boucherie. Might want to see what their hours of operation are over the holiday weekend.

the cheesecake is their money dish, so you can't pass that up. it's killer. Also the stuffed shrimp are great. My wife loves the fried poboy, but I find the peppers dominate the flavor and you don't taste much of the beef.
I tried the paneed rabbit once, and I found it not very good. The flavor was a bit bland, and it was a gristly piece of meat. I've never had the rabbit tenderloin, so if that's what everyone is referencing then I can't confirm or deny it. I actually plan to try it next time I go.
My personal favorites are, in order:
Grilled Mahi with shrimp, asparagus and pistachios. There's a sweet chili sauce on it, and it is phenomenal.
Potato Crusted Drum
Fried Chicken (best I've had)
Country Fried Venison
Stuffed Pork Chop
I have tried other things, but none of them are memorable to me. They weren't necessarily bad; however, there was nothing for me to worry about ordering again in the future. Beware the Carpet Bagger Steak. It sounds interesting enough, but the end result is just an ok meal. I think the oysters would work better as a topping rather than a stuffing.
Hope this helps. You will love the place and become a frequent visitor.

Was leaning toward the paneed rabit with the shrimp and tasso.
Having second thoughts now

It's cool. It can get to be loud as all hell and crazy in there if it's a busy night. Not sure how to judge how tonight will be, but get their early just in case as the wait times can get long.

I have never liked the place.
Most of the food is held on steam tables and glopped onto a plate. The food is almost a caricature of Creole cooking. The premises are shabby, its sneakily expensive, and nothing is really good. But they make you wait for an hour for a table and you have 3 mojitos. By then a slap in the face would taste good.

That's because it's not a good place but gets massively overrated by tourists and locals that eat out once a year.

Dont forget Tulane students who love to brag to their friends in Jersey about this "super authentic, locals dive where the food is real and shite."
