The family (wife and 5-year old) and I will be in Houston for family vacation soon and there's two Houston BBQ joints we are attempting to decide between:
1. Truth BBQ
2. Pinkerton's

Any others that should be in the conversation? Fwiw, ribs, brisket, and pulled pork are our staples for BBQ. What does the Board recommend?

Truth, all the way. Their sides and desserts are top tier too.

You can't go wrong with either as they're both really good.

Weekday or weekend? If weekend, I'd be tempted to do one of Pit Room, J-Bar-M, or Henderson & Kane with a young one. The line at Truth will take a while on a weekend.

Truth, Pinkerton’s, Pit Room are all close to each other in terms of quality…splitting hairs.

I live within a 3 minute drive of Truth BBQ but rarely find myself there, mostly because the lines are stupid. I think Truth has the best sides.

Pinkerton’s has the best actual bbq of the three for me…their sides could be better…at least at the original location…haven’t been to the new one in the Montrose yet. If you want pork ribs, this is the place for you.

Pit Room has a more Tex Mex slant…get the tacos here, or sub the white bread you get with any 1/2/3 meat plate for tortillas. Original location is in Montrose, it’s tiny…the Memorial location is just as good and has an expanded menu…best god damn club sandwich in the city.

If you're staying in Houston proper, Truth. If you encompass the metro, Corkscrew is the answer.

I really need to try that place based on your recommendation. The new one isn't far from where I work, so I don't have any excuses.

So far, my favorite pork ribs has been Roegel's.

Truth will have big lines even during the week, but it's generally manageable.

As mentioned, Truth sides & desserts are standout. You'll find good meat at any of them. Get the carrot cake if you make it to Truth.

If you go to Pinkerton's, make sure you get the turkey. I'm a turkey hater and think it's generally a trash meat, but Pinkerton's turkey is jaw droppingly good

Go north about 45 minutes to Corkscrew. Best brisket I’ve ever had. They open at 11. You can get there at 10 and get a number so you don’t have to stand in line.

This.

I always wondered why the hell someone would order turkey at a BBQ place, or at any establishment other than something like a stuffed turkey wing rice & gravy plate lunch.

I tried the turkey at Feges a few months back because I wanted BBQ, but wanted "healthy". It was incredible, and ever since, I've smoked turkey breast twice on my pit at home trying to duplicate.

Guess now I need to try the pork ribs AND turkey when I visit Pinkerton's.

I’ll drop even lower on the BBQ hierarchy…if you haven’t had the smoked half chicken from the Pit Room you need to try it…incredible.

Pit Room is the only place I'll order a chicken taco.

Bar-A-BBQ in Conroe is the best I've had.

Head West on 105 to Montgomery and you've got it right.

Coop is doing very well. Top tier brisket. Sausage still needs some work, but that is minor.

Agree.

Roegels on Voss gets high marks for all their meats.

Killen's in Pearland is top-shelf as well. Have never been to Tejas but the pitmaster at Interstellar spoke highly of it.

Houston has the sprawls but there is good BBQ all over town.

Top tier brisket

I've eaten a lot of Texas Brisket. His was the bottom. The dirty smoke for 3 hours makes the brisket bitter.
