How do you clean your used bottles for the next batch or do you just buy new ones? I had some used ones to clean and some had so mold in the bottom.

Oxy clean soak overnight FTW

You can buy the Sun oxygen cleaner which is just as good for 1/3 the price

I keg now but when I did bottle, I would soak in hot water then wash them in soapy hot water with a bottle brush then rinse. I would dunk them in sanitizer just prior to bottling.

Seriously, get a keg set up bottling sucks

I rinse and dry every empty bottle, then before bottling I soak for several hours to scrap off the labels, then run through the sanitizer cycle on my dishwasher, then dunk in a no rinse cleaner and put on tree to dry

Buying bottles the first go round is ok, but after you know you will need them you should have plenty saved up

I would recommend rinsing with water right after you pour to get the yeast out and avoid crusting mess

This + oxyclean + turn upside down and let dry overnight (milk crate w/ towel in it works good + cover tops w/ foil and bake in oven at 360 for 1 hour. foil keeps bottles sanitary indefinitely. But I will usually bake again the day before bottling.

you don't just use a no rinse sanitizer on the clean bottles?

Rinse it out after drinking. Soak in oxy clean (i usually soak in oxy within a week. If you rinse out well enough you should have no problem). Run full cycle in dishwasher with no detergent (just water) day of bottling.

Nope. I bake them. Much easier than dunking each bottle in star san. And like I said, if you cover the tops w/ foil, they stay sterilized. I have gone a week before using these sterilized bottles.

Soak, then I run them through a dishwasher cycle with soap and then another cycle with just a rinse and heat dry.

The heat dry will kill anything on them, same reason people put sponges and crap like that through the dishwasher.

Then do you leave the tops uncovered ? if so, how long?

Really easy. Go buy a large tub. Target sells some large plastic ones.

Fill up the tub with hot water and 3 or 4 tbspns of PBW. Soak the bottles overnight.

PBW will do 2 things. Clean the hell out of the bottles, and remove most labels from the bottles w/o scrubbing.

Once soaked, i empty out the bottles in the sink, quickly rinse, then dump the tub. Now, fill up with water and some starsan. This will sterilize.

Once done sterilizing, empty and put on a bottle tree for a few hours to let dry.

I've never had problems with dirty bottles, and i've been bottling since i began brewing for about 1.3 years.

Not to get too anal, but Starsan does not sterilize, it sanitizes. Baking them sterilizes.
