I don't believe it is. I'm 52. I grew up in Ms. My parents grew up in Ms and La. I've eaten Southern cuisine all of my life. And I'd never heard of "chicken and waffles" as a dish until the media showed it to me from Harlem...or the Left Coast...or maybe...maybe from Atlanta.

Is this a "Southern dish" from which I was sheltered? Did my dad's mom who ran a diner for decades in Louisville, Ms just miss this one? How about my other grandmother who was the household cook for her father, brothers and sisters and then her own family for over 80 years in Hurricane, La.? Did she just not know her stuff?

It is southern in that the idea came from Blacks in Atlanta. When it was shown on food channels is when it got spread around the nation.

I think consumers believe it's Southern...it ain't. I'm sure it can be good...I love good fried chicken...I like waffles and syrup . But, I'm not participating in the ruse.

I aint as old as u, crusty old timer... But ive lived n all 3 areas of LA: NLA, CENLA, & SLA...

Never had chicken n waffles at any homes ive ever lived or visited.

So my small sample size says it aint a Louisiana thing, and I consider Louisiana pretty southern

i mean it's good, but like…it's fried chicken, which is good, and it's waffles, which are good. it's not like you make a sandwich out of them or anything.

Look at the Willy's thread and then repeat that sandwich statement for me.

I don't know if it is or not. I've had it at the Breakfast Klub(yes, that's how they spell it), here in Houston. It's good and one of the items they're known for. Fwiw, they also have catfish and grits on their menu.

Brought my brother there. So damn good, he always talks about that chicken. The line is unbelievable though.

I really don't know anything about the history of chicken and waffles, but I think it's something that sounds like it should be Southern, so it's labeled as such regardless of whether it is or isn't.

I'm with you. Never heard of the combo growing up and I've got a couple or five years on you. When they started becoming popular as a southern dish, I thought that maybe I just wasn't southern enough.

I'm gonna boycott with you but I ain't mad. I just don't think that I would like the two together.

I like waffles with butter and syrup (I like pancakes better).

I like fried chicken.

I don't like sweet with my fried chicken. The syrup on the waffles would just not pair well with the crispy fried chicken (at least not for me).

Church's butter honey glazed biscuits, served with their chicken, irk the hell out of me.

I do like honey, jam or syrup on a biscuit, at breakfast, if the biscuit is all that I having.

First floor of the old Louisville Motel. She operated the motel, too.

Cool. My wife's grandfather had the Depot Cafe. I have the old sign hanging on my patio.

Sorry, they just do not go together. When I saw that a mixture of chicken gravy and maple syrup is poured over it, you lost me.
