Mighty OT. I'm walking out the door to work, but need to know the answer to two burning questions:

1. Where can I get the best King Cake in Houston?

2. Where can I get some Abita Strawberry in Houston?

The first question I have no clue, the 2nd I think someone mentioned the Spec's near DTown Houston would have it. I live out in Cypress so any aid would be beneficial. Henceforth why it's called aid.

There is a Rao's bakery in Spring area. They are out of Beaumont and do a pretty good king cake.

I was at Downtown specs Sat and they didn't have any of the strawberry yet.

I'd definitely like to know the answer to question # 1 as well. For Abita Strawberry, Spec's is definitely the place to go. Every now and again I've found some at Kroger (not often though). The real question would be WHEN will Spec's start carrying it b/c I went last weekend and they didn't have any yet.

1. Go to Haydel's website, order, wait. Best one I have found in Houston.

2. Spec's is the 1st option. HEB (bigger stores, not the HEB pantrys) does stock a lot of different beers, might be worth a shot.

I have been here for 30 years- there is no good king cake here- just do what I do- whenever I go back to NOLA, I go to Haydel's, buy a few, bring them back, cut them up & freeze them. Even an old defrosted piece of a Haydel's king cake is better than anything here in Houston as far as any king cake goes...

Yeah. I bought an HEB king cake yesterday cause I thought I'd give it a shot for 6 bucks.

The strawberry i'm sure Spec's will have but I just never know who has it consistently.

I here you man, I get desperate sometimes too, will get one from Kroger or HEB, then realize there really is no comparison. Kind of like Mardi Gras- Mardi Gras in Galveston compared to NOLA is a joke- don't waste your time going to Galveston...

you won't, been looking for five years. HEB isn't too bad, but if you really want authentic, then make it yourself or mail order.

Call around even amongst the Spec's. Last year one of the smaller Spec's had Strawberry before midtown got their supply.

And yes, just order and have one shipped from Haydel's. Picked up one last weekend, yum!
