This place is clearly in a sketch area of town. Can I go eat tacos here by my lonesome or do I need to bring an escort for my protection?

Also, whats good there?

I can get it with a fews days notice from Emmett's Specialty Meats in Harahan. Care to post a recipe either here or in the stickied thread?

i cook the roast whole wrapped in foil, and then in an oven bag on low overnight. i put flour so the foil doesnt stick to the bag.

i dont prep it at all. the next morning, i take it out the bag and open the foil for another hour or so because i like it a little dried out (this is a fatty cut, so theres a ton of grease). i add salt when i open the foil.

then i top with green salsa and avocado with fresh tortillas.

there is no better meal in the world to me.

frick acme. im gonna make barbacoa tonight.

It is delicious. The fresh tortillas are the issue here. Do I really need lard to make a good flour tortilla? What size roast? Like 2 lbs?

ETA: nice choice on dinner.

if you want to make the tortillas authentic, then lard is a must. but there are some tortilla mixes (look at local mexxican marts) that dont require lard.

bump to say that i checked the place out. I got the grilled tacos so i could try their beef, pork and chicken. it came with rice and beans.

as far as authenticity goes, its a little gourmet fru fru for my preferences. But, the flavors of the meat was spot on and i liked the salsa verde even though it was a bit hotter than i was accustomed to. they were generous with the cilantro garnish, which I never understand. It's pretty and picturesque, but a little goes a long way people!

The rice didnt have enough cumin and the beans tasted a little too much like pork for my preferences, but keep in mind i am an absolute snob when it comes to latin food because my mother is mexican.

So, with all of that said, I actually really enjoyed the tacos and there is a lot on the menu that i still want to try.

ambiance is great if that is all your dumb date cares about, but blindfold her, because it is a tad sketch of an area.

id give the dish i ate an 8/10 even with all my complaints (i acknowledge that those are simply my preferences, and doesnt necessarily detract from the dish).

Im looking forward to going again and trying some of the specials like fin told me to.
