I am of the belief that a veto should only be used in the case of clear collusion and not to stop a lopsided trade. Some people I talk to belief stopping lopsided trades is the purpose as it is their way of "protecting the field."

What is this board's thoughts?

How can you prove collusion?

Redraft league at my work I dropped out of after this trade.

Dude traded mack and marvin Jones for hunt and Hopkins. In week 3.

That's collusion.

Ok, but how do you know?

It’s not like it was week 8 and he knew he wasn’t making the playoffs

How do you prove it?

Because mack is out for the year. Why would you trade the number 1 receiver and hunt for a guy who's done for the year and a huge downgrade at wr for any other reason than collusion?

When was this? I’m not saying it was a smart trade but I can actually argue this isn’t collusion depending on when it was. With Hunt not being the starter behind Chubb. He may have thought and needed the starting rb in Marlon Mack and used Hopkins to get that and hunt to get Jones. It’s lopsided but doesn’t prove collusion. Especially if this is when Hunt was suspended.

Do you dropped out in the middle of the year? In a year of COVID and rampant injury? I’m calling bs.

Doesn’t mean it was week three of this year. Cause who the hell drops out in the middle of a season.

The only time our league has vetoed a deal was the following instance three years ago:

Week 8 (both teams on the playoff bubble):

Team A has their top WR on bye
Team B has their top RB on bye

Team A trades a RB to Team B in exchange for a WR

Week 9:

Team A has their top RB on bye
Team B has their top WR on bye

Team A trades the exact same WR back to team B in exchange for the exact same RB

The league vetoed the move in week 9 and forced the two teams to keep their original week 8 trade.

That is the way we proved collusion and what I refer to as "clear collusion."

Sounds like that was mutually beneficial.

sound to me like illegal cooperation or conspiracy, especially in order to cheat or deceive others.

Because they didn't plan for bye weeks.

What’s your distinction between the two? Most lopsided trades in my experience are vetoed not because they are unfair but because it’s conspiracy collusion to some people.. I’ve had two trades vetoed due to “lopsided” trades.. it is what it is

It’s a keeper league though right? So maybe he was trading for the future

Wouldn’t that be a normal trade and not collusion? Sounds like both teams benefitted

In no world are Marvin Jones and Mack keepers for the future

I mean I’ve traded someone who is hurt to a team that didn’t know he was hurt.. sometimes people aren’t as invested as us fantasy nerds
