I was surprised to see this was passed through the Senate yesterday. Apparently, the taxation of this is on the docket for the special session that starts next week. Anyone have any insight into this and whether there's a chance this could be legalized this year? I thought after last year's shenanigans that we had to wait until 2021, but maybe not?

Update 7/15:

DraftKings became the first daily fantasy sports betting company allowed to do business in the state with approval Thursday by the Louisiana Gaming Control Board. DraftKings officials said the company would be operating as soon as possible in Louisiana. It could possibly go live through its website and app as early as Thursday night.

I was under the impression the taxes cannot be voted on until 2021 session.

But this is huge. On to governor.

Item 17 of 40 in new session beginning tomorrow.

They want everything ready by August 1. So this will be ready for football season.

I was about to come in all Debbie Downer asking how can this be ready for the start of football when it has to go to the voters for approval in November, then I read the bill.

That’s pretty crafty of Magee and those who helped draft it.

It legalizes sports wagering across Louisiana as soon as the taxation legislation is signed into law. So really, instead of asking voters “Should sports wagering be permitted in your parish?” It’s actually “Should sports wagering continue to be permitted...?”

The Louisiana Family Forum is praying (lobbying) to stop this.

Magee's bill was basically a sports betting bill changed to a fantasy sports bill after Cam Henry's referendum passed.

It has nothing to do with sports betting now, and they'll pass the taxation portion of it in June.

Glad they are taking it up. What happened last year was ridiculous.

It looks like HB 357 passed the House yesterday. So we’re done?

Governor still has to sign the bill.

THEN they will have to pass tax laws on fantasy in June's special session.

I would assume JBE won't be signing the bill until the taxation is completed. This happened last year and he didn't sign the legalization part.

Naw last year the tax bill never got out the senate for final passage. Never made it to him. He will 100% sign this.

That's what I said, JBE didn't sign the legalization part of the bill because the taxation part wasn't passed.

If they don't come up with taxation in the special session, he won't sign the HB357.
