IR / Commissioner Question

Been in a league with a bunch of guys for ~10 years. Know some personally.
The Commissioner asked me at the beginning of the year to take over because he wasn't able to do it from work, travel etc. Agreed to do it.
Last week, Week 6, I raised the question about adding an IR spot.
You guys interested in having an IR Position?
There have been a lot of injuries and players being placed in the COVID Protocol this year. I'm in some other leagues that allow you to move an injured (or COVID) player to an IR spot so you don't have to drop them. If they get off IR you have to drop another player to make sure your roster size always remains the same. You've seen this with a CMC, Barkley, Gronk, Tua and the like.
Thought I'd bring it up for a discussion and vote. The pros are if a key player gets hurt or COVID, and you have an already thin bench, you don't have to worry about dropping someone to pick up a filler. The cons are we're in Week 6 and it's a midseason league change and some might not want to do that.
It'd be an easy change. Suggested add would be 1 IR spot if we did it.
Your call. Let me know your thoughts!
It's Yahoo, so sent it via email and message board. Got 3 responses back, all positive, no else one replied back, even until today, so last Saturday added the change.
SO..
Today, the former Commissioner comes back on the message board and dresses the decision down, wasn't a quorum, shouldn't do mid season changes, and closed with a very terse reply back and vowing it'll never happen again.
I get the mid season thing, that's why I brought it up. And it benefits everyone in the league as we're all facing COVID and injuries (which this covers both if Yahoo designates it). Isn't helping one team over another.
I'm royally pissed to be honest and about to tell him he can take it back over and I quit.
But this shite's supposed to be fun, so I'm holding off for the moment.
Any advice?
Thanks!

With it being mid season I’d say if everyone votes yes go ahead and do it. If even one person votes no then don’t.

Dude is taking it far too seriously.
Just say no, then explain why, high five and move on.
Establish a quorum for the fantasy league?

Thank you for your posts.
4/12 were ok with it before I changed it last Saturday. No one else ever replied back. Then, late this week and today, one said we shouldn't do mid season changes and then this post today from the former Commissioner.
I texted him last Saturday saying it was a sound decision, no one voiced a complaint, helps every team in these times. Decision was made. Reminded him he's always welcome to take it back over. Then this post today.
Quorum and voting rules would have certainly made sense but this like a real informal league.
So, at this point, what's done is done. Can overreact and take my marbles and go home, or do something else.

Being the commissioner is a thankless job. It is difficult to please 10 to 14 owners and maintain the peace while you're trying to run your own team, too. Events like this will crop up from time to time. Every commissioner who ever served had to deal with some shite or the other. Thus,

I'm royally pissed to be honest and about to tell him he can take it back over and I quit.
quote:These are good points. Best practice is to have rules to cover this situation agreed in advance. Example, no in-season rule changes without majority vote of 9/12 teams. Minimum two weeks to respond or vote on proposed rule change. Better yet, no in-season changes without 100% express approval of owners.

It's not too late to undo what happened. Just tell anyone who stashed a COVID player, to reactivate and drop the extra player by x day at y time.
Whatever you do, don't stew on it, take it personally, or overreact. You've got a decade in this league. I think you can manage this minor setback.

Thank you for that sagely advice!
FYI, based upon a review on who's already added or not:
No 7
Yes 5
Grand Total 12

My league has two IR spots. Wish we had 3

Yeah it sounds like the dude was a jerk although I’d probably side with his view given mid-season. Being a jerk is the more significant part of the story, no reason for that. Only possible excuse is that many people are going through mental health issues even if you wouldn’t expect it.
Both of my leagues start 9. One has 15 on roster and other is 16. In these 12 team leagues, I’d prefer keeping max of 16. I would support the 15 adding 1 IR.

We added an extra last year to go to 2 because of covid. We decided to leave it as 2 going forward. It's really a necessity to have at least one.

IR is really only good with dynasty leagues. In re-draft leagues, IR creates a slimmer waiver wire. Some leagues deal with that by limiting bench spots. One way or another, you want to optimize opportunities for bad teams to improve. IR does not help that.

I agree no mid season changes. You all knew this from last season, when Covid was more of an issue. It’s not fair to those who may have had to drop someone or lost due to having to play a player that isn’t of the same caliber of who missed earlier in the season.
I don’t agree with the former commish jumping in. He didn’t have time to frick with it, so he needs to stay not having time to fool with anything other than his lineup.

Agreed, only way would be a unanimous league vote to change it up mid year

With the new COVID rules every league should have at least one spot. Teams put players on IR for 2-3 week injuries to heal just to give them an extra roster spot during the time frame and not rush a player back
