anything that measures a positive result would be an improvement.

FIP

or do away with WHIP and kinda separate it into 2 categories, and go with something like Hits per 9 & SO/W ratio

or just do 5 x 5

Also, I am very opposed to going to 5x5, because I like OBP and SLG being separate cats. I drafted my team to focus on OBP.

Add BAA (batting average against) and change WHIP to baserunners allowed per 9 innings. (Or change WHIP to MWHIP, which is the same thing, just per inning instead of per 9 innings)

Of the top 10 OPS guys from last season

9 were in the top 10 in SLG%

7 were in the top 10 in OBP , with one finishing 13th and one was 18th-- so 9 in the top 18 of OBP

Am I taking crazy pills or is splitting OPS ridiculous? Someone please confirm that they see it they way I do

Matt Carpenter is an example of someone who has a great OBP but a subpar SLG.

ETA: He's not even subpar in SLG, but it changes his value IMO.

2014:
OBP-7th
SLG-49th
OPS-37th

I see what you're saying, but doesn't the fact that you're also measuring carpenters slg balance out his great OBP.., which ops would encompass?

Daryl that last place finish should tell you you're running with the big dogs

I am almost assured to win OBP each week. I am NOT assured to win OPS every week.

I'm not so sure about that redd

If your OBP is that good I'd be willing to bet you're at or near the top of ops. Obviously they aren't married together but it's close

I think if you were just scoring OBP then your theory would work. But the fact that you're scoring both, I think it all balances out and the one star would suffice

It'll be something to watch as the year plays out. I curious to look at week 1 numbers when I get home. Give me the top OBP teams and where they would be in an ops league

Of the 10 matchups this past week, only half of them had a team winning both OBP and SLG.
