re: FSBDL 2020 - Spring Training
So the owners want the highest paid players to take the largest pay cuts

TBH. I don’t think it’s that bad of an idea

The biggest problem with the Owners argument is you can' deny players a direct share of revenue/profits, but then when shite hits the fan want them to now have salary directly tied to revenue/profits

When you crack open these contracts, which the owners are trying to do, you get into all kinds of issues that won't be resolved easily or quickly...there's bonus money, guaranteed money...all kinds of shite on the line now.

Also, i don't know to what extent any agreement that comes out of this can be used as precedent in future labor negotiations.

I'm 90% sure there won't be baseball this season.

And fantrax better refund or save funds for next season if that's the case.

I’ve closed my Fantrax tab that’s been open for at least since January on my phone.

It’s starting to sink in that the average age for 90% of my MLB roster is 32 years old and we’re just going to skip a year.

Now I really want my mlb.tv money back from these a-holes.

I’m sure y’all have heard that ESPN is picking up the MLB Draft this year

That’s in 2 weeks.

I just can’t see Manfred and MLB being on the national stage attempting to promote its future if there is no future.

If there’s no 2020, do the owners then lock out the players for 2021 or until a new CBA is reached?

It would just be too awful of optics for both sides not to have something in place by June 10.

That’s what I believe.

I also have a bad feeling about this.

re: FSBDL 2020 - Spring Training
If they don't play this year do the players get paid at all? If not, I'd be surprised if they dig their heels in to the point that they ditch their money for a year. I know it happens with re-negotiations of bargaining agreements that have a lasting impact, but for a one-year stop gap that would be extreme. Lotta posturing going on which is typical in these scenarios. The pendulum usually swings to extremes before it falls somewhere toward the middle. Just my uneducated thoughts.

ETA:

Also, baseball needs to be marketing its arse off in today's sports climate. If they are the only sport sitting on their arse while others are on TV, they will have made a big mistake IMO. I'm sure the owners, player association, and league are smart enough to know that, but maybe they don't give a shite.

Yes they do. They need to be doing whatever possible to get this season started.
