I dont understand why he would care if the club had to pay 75k for an interpreter. That isnt coming out of his pocket

Agreed, weird thing to be bothered by. To bring up the language thing twice is telling, and apparently Julio Rodriguez speaks English very well.

He was speaking to a rotary club- half of their purpose is humanitarian projects and the other half is business acumen development for its members. He was pointing out what he believed to be a bad business move fr my understanding

This is an absolutely stupid comment. He's the CEO. The bottom line is ultimately his responsibility.

He's an idiot. Speeches to the rotary club are about selling tickets and tv viewership. My guess is that he had too much to drink and there were previous concerns about his drinking and this made it easier to get rid of him.

Be honest how many World Series has he won? Not a hard decision to tell him he has to go. Dumb, dumb, dumb guy. He would never tell this to the beat writers but he decides this is the appropriate venue. GMs and presidents wouldn't talk this way in the 1950s.

Every team manipulates the service time and it's not even just for the star players or star minor leaguers.

But like you said, it's something you just don't say publicly as a baseball exec

Unless you have had enough of the BS, and are trying to expose the corruption.

Just another good example where doing your job is not as important as the way doing your job is perceived

The Mariners are fighting a perception from their fans that they are in the business of making money, not winning games. Mather proved that’s exactly what they’re doing, no way he can keep his job after that.

He publicly admitted to manipulating service time the year before the CBA expires during a time where the relationship between the league and the PA is already not great to begin with. He absolutely deserves to lose his job over that.

Starting to hit the fan now. Kelenic is claiming he was/is being punished by Seattle for not taking the extension
