This is going to pay off for them because young people love the NBA. Due to the league’s stupid local tv contracts, viewership looks worse than it is because illegal streams are insanely popular.
I don’t know a single person who follows the NBA closely before the playoffs.

they're going to regret making a shite ton of money?
All that money is reinvested into winning. It’s not like the school really benefits from it.
An argument could be made the benefit of playing on CBS every week is greater than however much more for facilities or analysts or whatever.

The CFBNCG shouldn’t be on a Monday Night and it shouldn’t be on cable.
Agreed, Thursday night on ABC

This is the primary reason I hated to see the SEC contract with CBS end.
It's always good to have some of your product on OTA television

Cutting cables and variations thereof. When ESPN has exclusives and the potential viewership has decided to do without ESPN, viewership will continue to drop and advertising slots will be harder to sell, or to sell at any price.
There is no equivalent of The Mouse That Roared to save ESPN 's shrinking revenues.

NBA players don’t even follow the nba closely until the playoffs.

It's always good to have some of your product on OTA television. It helped build the NFL.
The SEC game of the week is moving to ABC. The only difference is more of them will be in primetime.
