You wont be able to see the rust. Yes stainless cables will rust

Use Kevlar ropes and you won’t need to cover them.

2 inch pvc black plastic pipe on mine. Wouldn’t want to take things apart to do it though. Mine were assembled like that from the get go.

Most hardware stores sell clear tubing. That's what's on mine, but they put on there when it was assembled. Might have to look at a few stores to get the exact diameter that you want.

Seems if it fit nicely, you could probably split it down the sides and maybe put a few zip ties on it and be good.

Being clear might be better to help you keep an eye on any rust issues.

It does feel nicer when you use it as a grab rail to get out of the boat when fetching another beer.

Id go to McMaster carr and order the exact ID size you need.

They also make clear wraps as well
