Parking ticket in a rental car.
So I visited LA for the first time last week and got a parking ticket my first night there. Its $71 for parking for two hours in Hollywood. I was unaware that it was residential parking as the sign was covered in graffiti.

The rental agreement states that if I don't pay the ticket the company will charge me $250.

But I filed an appeal with the city of Los Angeles which let's them know I was the driver. I also let them know it was a rental car.

So if I lose my appeal and don't pay, will they go after me or the rental car company? I'm fine never paying that city, but I don't want the car company to charge me for that decision.

I got a red light ticket in one and the rental car company forwarded my info to the city. I’d think since they have your identity, the car company is out of the equation now.

Because it is a ridiculous amount to charge a visitor who was unaware of the situation. How am I supposed to be aware of the law?

But congratulations on being the type of shithead that is the reason we have bad government and shitty laws in the first place. Got any more great advice Trump voter?

How about stop being an entitled pissant who makes excuses and blames everyone else for their mistakes.

Grow up, man up, learn some responsibility, pay the fine, accept that YOU made a mistake, accept the consequence and becomes a better person for it.

You broke the law, pay the fine...or don’t and accept the consequences. Either way, trying to avoid consequence for your actions is a total bitch move.

Hopefully this wasn't the meat of your appeal. It being a rental has nothing to do with your inability to identify a legal parking spot. There are apps for this, and I'm pretty sure your Maps app on your phone will give you parking options everywhere in the world.

From someone who lived in downtown Houston for a couple of years, nothing was more satisfying than waking up on a weekend to see cars ticketed around my apartment complex.

Then I guess you willingly pay the city every single time you go one mile over the posted speed limit too? You just mail them a confession and a check for your crime?

If I am caught breaking the law and cited, yes....absolutely.

No. It's mind boggling you don't know the difference between being caught breaking the law and not being caught. If you want to speed, speed. If you want to park illegally, then so be it.

BUT, if you're caught pay up and accept it. Stop trying to pass the blame.

This isn't a very complicated subject matter. Its basic responsibility and personal accountability for your actions but the fact that so many people today struggle with it today is blatantly obvious.

Any time you travel and park, anywhere you should be looking to confirm that you're parking legally. If you can't confirm it, don't park there. Ambiguous, nothing posted, verbiage you don't quite understand...look to park somewhere else that you do. There's a good lesson you can learn in here if you just accept that you F'ed up.

Seriously, your "points" and "gotchas" make no sense.

The rental car industry has this down. You are not the first person to get a parking ticket. It will immediately be sent to you with an additional processing fee. Pay it then dispute it with the local jurisdiction that gave it to you.

If you didn't have intent to break the law, then they should acquit...

I've received 2 parking tickets on my rental car windshield in the past. Didn't pay either & never heard a word from anyone about them.

I was going to tell you how to handle this since I have had it happen and know exactly what to do.

re: Parking ticket in a rental car.
If you can afford to travel and rent a car, you should be able to afford to pay the parking ticket. Why would you invest time, mental energy, and concern on a $70 item? Pay the ticket, move on.

What did you think the graffiti covered sign was for at the time?

I just can't imagine parking a vehicle on the street in a congested area of a big unfamiliar city and not assuming there must be some sort of restrictions or fee to do so, and not looking around to make double sure before walking away. I can't imagine that "graffiti covered" sign was the only one.
