I would call AO Smith also. I would think it's under warranty. I don't see how the whole heater could have broken. Maybe you can post some pics if where the valve is.

I still don't understand why my cousin thought flipping that switch would lead to more hot water though. Boggles my mind.

Please tell me said cousin isn't coming back to your house anymore.

Send him the bill. At the very least, he'll know what he did. At the most, he'll feel bad and send you a check. Probably not, though.

Yeah. With it being T-giving, they had a $300 surcharge in order to replace the valve. The price with the surcharge and labor was something like 600. He was gouging me, but he didn't charge me the surcharge at the final invoice though.

It has been a while since I bought one but HD should have one for 15-20 bucks and it is a simple 20 min job.

ETA it should look like this and it is $13.99 at HD

I just bought a new heater and we are going to put this heater into one of our rentals. It all worked out, in a way. Just a pain in the arse to deal with on T-giving.

easy fix, they only cost $12 but yep, you have to replace the pop off valve because scale and rust and shite gets in it if someone opens it and lets it run.

5% chance if you snap it a few times it "might" reseal but it could start leaking again later
