Why tarp seats?

Watching the Raiders game and seeing all those tarped seats.
Sell those sections for $1 or give them away. If one free loaders buys a Coke you made profit.
Obviously there is a cost to opening those seats, but there’s got to be a negative opportunity costs even with free seats.
shite the team is moving. Why not sell some beers?

The beers probably go to the concession company. Their contract is probably for a flat rate with the Raiders and not dependent upon sales. That’s just a guess.

Have to make sure there's a sellout or else it won't broadcast

Won’t broadcast? What?

In 2013, the Oakland Raiders also started covering Mount Davis with tarp owing to the National Football League television blackout policies which obligate teams to black out the game if they cannot sell more than 85% stadium capacity.

That's how nfl blackout rules work.

That’s not really a thing anymore.

Then why pay for decent seats when you can get them for $1.

My brother still uses that line, lol

I’m sure they have done the financial calculations, but I’ve never understood this either. Doesn’t make sense to have tickets at like $40+ minimum and have entire sections open. $40 may not be much but add in parking, food, multiple tickets for a dad, etc. and it easily adds up to $200.

my guess, if the seats are left open, and people go sit there (moving from their old seats), you now have to clean them, and because you don't know who sat where, you now have to clean the entire section. the stadium doesn't want to pay for that

I'm sure these folks will be the bastion of society.

Teams have been on TV in local markets for years now regardless of the team ticket sales which is why I was asking if that was what he was confusing it with

It's a Raiders game. Crowd is already full of gangbangers

i heard the seats have issues, some broken, some ready to break and hurt anyone sitting in them, so the liability isnt worth any small return on taking the risk of using them.

Public safety. Imagine a typical Raider fan. Now imagine one that can only afford to go to a game for free or for #1

I originally thought about them not wanting to clean the sections but the more I think about it. Cleaning wouldn’t cost much more (if any) than for them to purchase the tap and have people put it up
