This country has a mental health problem and we refuse to acknowledge it.


I went to Barnes and Noble one day to get a book for a friend about depression.


Having dealt with it my entire life, to the point 18 years ago where I held a loaded gun to my head, finger on the trigger.

I didn't pull the trigger, because at that point, I had an epiphany: Death is easy. It's the only thing in this world that requires no effort on your part. Life is hard. Life is scary. And I didn't want to do the easy way. I've never taken the easy route.


I was in the self help section of Barnes and Noble, three entire rows of self-help books.

Each book was "How to get rich".

I finally found books on depression and addiction and griefand other mental health issues upstairs, in a back corner. It was one set of shelves.

That told me all I needed to know about how our country ignores mental health.

I mean, I guess good on him for not forcing her to get back out there. I guess he knows it would end in disaster.
