Going to Branson this week for family vacation. Never been. Wife and 14 year old son. Looking for recommendations to do and avoid. Thanks.

Family went in July and had a good time.

- Go to downtown Branson and watch the fountain show and check out the 5 & 10.
- Mel's Hard Luck Diner was fun, go for the entertainment and singing wait staff, food was just ok.
- Florentina's Italian was fantastic, get the Nachos Italiano appetizer.
- For shows hit up the purple building when you get there for 2 for 1 tickets.
- Most shows can be seen this way except for....... Jesus at the Sight and Sound Theater, very impressive show and a beautiful theater (look this up, book this from the sight and sound website only, worth every penny).
- Get out of Branson and see table rock Lake.
- Eat at the Keeter Center at the College of the Ozarks. Good food and a beautiful campus as well.
- Avoid the timeshare, "free ticket" gimmicks at all costs.

All good suggestions.

Head into Springfield and check out the aquarium at Bass Pro Shops

Ride through the Christmas lights at Big Cedar Lodge. take the main entrance. Go sit out on the patio at Top of the Rock and take in the views of table rock lake

There is a Christmas village and shops in Branson.

If you like golf, there are several great courses in the area.

Silver Dollar City has a bunch of stuff to do.

Definitely do Silver Dollar City at night to see all the Christmas lights. Think they have like 6 million lights there. Sights and Sounds theater. Lost Canyon Cave golf cart tour is fun. Also agree with going to Bass Pro to check out the Aquarium and museum

I've not been yet, but have heard really good things about Dogwood Canyon. Have bike/hiking trails, trout fishing, and a wildlife tour that drops down in to Arkansas. Basically anything related to Bass Pro is pretty awesome. They like to blow money on family stuff.

Food
- Billy Gailes for breakfast(sloppy biscuit ftw)
- Pickin’ Porch Grill for Burgers(one of my top all time burgers)
- Grandma Ruth’s Cinnamon Rolls one morning for the best cinnamon rolls you’ve ever had(hot and fresh btw)

I’d stay clear of chains on Branson Landing. The Mexican joint isn’t a terrible option down there. Good margaritas. Normal Mexican food, nothing special.

Silver Dollar City is always fun. Have a good selection of coasters. The aquarium in Springfield is worth the drive if you’ve got kids.

Silver Dollar City

We are going to Branson next month for the first time. Have sight and sound and Dixie stampede tickets already. Wasn’t that excited about the stampede because I’ve seen it twice in Pigeon Forge but kids wanted to do it. For Silver Dollar City, I noticed their website shows the park hours are 1-9. Is that an issue or is that plenty of time to get it all in? Or are we better off just doing the reduced ticket price from 5-9 if they offer that just for the Christmas lights?

They adjust the hours in the fall. If it were me, I’d probably do the 5-9 if they’re charging full price for tix from 1-9. I’d probably schedule it for middle of week so the crowds aren’t as big. Problem is, it may be arse cold during those hours.

Maybe make a plan of rides you want to ride and stick to the plan while also taking in the lights and all? Just a thought.

Silver Dollar is probably one of the most under appreciated parks in the country. They have some legit coasters that are a pretty good time to ride.

I agree. Very under appreciated as far as theme parks. Personally I would splurge for the full day bc they have so much going on there as far as blacksmith, glass blowing etc. Especially this time of the year. They drop big $$ on Christmas there

Really enjoyed the show. The show itself was almost 2 1/2 hours not including the intermission but was awesome. Kids loved it too.

Also enjoyed visiting the Keeter Center. Didn’t have reservations for dining unfortunately but enjoyed coffee and ice cream. That said, didn’t know anything about the College of the Ozarks until we went but love the concept of no tuition and everybody works to pay their way.

Didn’t do Silver Dollar City although I wanted to. Recent reviews talked about it being under staffed and over crowded and with the shortened hours decided to wait until another time.

First trip to Branson and really enjoyed it. Liked the little downtown area and how it was separate from the strip.
