Curious to see how one of the more powerful GMs in the league handles this shite show crew. Klutch already threatening to hold Simmons out of camp. Wants him on one of the Cali teams of course. And now trying to use his other client on the team, Maxey, as leverage to get what he wants.

I’d never touch any player that signs with them. Said in the Ball thread as soon as he signed with them we shoulda traded him right then and there.

Morey got on the bad side of agents before in Houston when he was picking up all of the cheap options instead of giving players that had showed promise better deals. He still was able to build the team he wanted to more or less.

He also told China to GFY when China was a big source of income for the team. I don’t think he’ll bend to Klutch.

It really pisses me off how none of the national media will call out Klutch's bullshite.

I was listening to NBA radio yesterday and they were talking about how you can't play hardball with Klutch, etc. and I'm thinking, frick that.

They basically said Simmons could you sabotage the team and no one will trade for him unless it's his preferred destinations because he won't show up so they basically just gave away picks/players for nothing.

That's an NBA issue.

Let's say Philly trades Simmons to Cleveland and Simmons refuses to show, the NBA should 1. fine him his total salary plus fees on top of it that he has to pay once he reports. 2. Give Cleveland supplemental picks, cash, something to make up for the lost value shipped out, fine Klutch.

If I'm Morey I trade Ben to OKC for Poku, Kenrich and a couple 1sts (they have plenty to burn).

Dare him not to report to the team, he would forfeit the rest of his salary (roughly 146 million). They frick Ben and Klutch, create a 33 million dollar trade exception, and get a few assets to use in another trade.

My other call would be to Houston in a Wall swap.

The NBA needs to grow some nuts. This shite is tiresome and blatant. It’s happened to us twice and now they are trying to super team this bullshite in LA again for pennies on the dollar. frick them.

Its going to take a handful of teams to blackball Klutch for this shite to stop. Even then im not so sure.

My only hope is enough teams get fed up... Like a legit 10 + to where it would kill any leverage he has. They cant all go to LA, NY etc.

wow thats interesting.
i was going to say that salary match might be an issue, but somehow i missed this:

Signed 5-yr $169.65M extension Tuesday, July 16, 2019.

that might be the worst contract in the league

I don’t think so. He is happy to move on from them, IMO.

Ben is not that far behind imo. Houston would have to throw picks in with that deal, but it could work, and hold Philly over until Dame comes available, and gives them the salary to match along with more picks.

Eventually, a team is going to play hardball with one of these entitled prima donnas -- and just say no.

But not here, because Philly wants to dump Simmons too. They should have just taken the best deal that they could during the draft and free agency, though, because the price keeps going down.

I think they are going to wait until the season starts and see if they can get Lillard or Beal at the deadline.

Unfortunately they won’t…not until there is a new CBA that restructures the way contacts are setup….no team is going to just let a player sabotage their roster if they can get anything for him.

You're correct here, but the idea would be every game that player sits out, he's not getting paid. SO you can bet at some point, using Simmons as the hypothetical, he would have no choice but to take the L and return to the Sixers. It's not like he's going to sit out the next 4 years and lose $120mil. If the Sixers truly played hardball, they would absolutely "win" in that Simmons would return to them. BUt the issue is the opportunity cost, it's just not worth it. Plus he can physically return and just pull a James Harden and be a complete cancer. So yea, ultimately even that "win" is not a win for the team, so that is why you are correct in the end, the team has no choice but to cut bait and get the most they can.

I'm not sure what all truly went down last offseason but if Morey had any chance at all to get Harden for Simmons and didn't, he's gotta be kicking himself now.

I think Morey would know as much about Harden as anyone….maybe he knew it wouldn’t work with Embiid there, or he knew that Harden was forcing his way to the Nets no matter what.

Pretty sure he was on board but the Houston owner nixed any trade to Philly out of spite.

Then the NBA steps in and doesn’t defend the team. Toní was pulling all kinds of shite and when we wanted to just make him go away we were the bad guys, remember?
