I'm close to hitting Silver Status and see the complimentary upgrades and I'm curious if they happen often? Do you get the notification 24hrs before you've been bumped up?

Also, does the rollover help you stay in your status range?

Also, how often do you fly? Normally I do a trip around spring break and then two summer trips. Which has never been enough in the past to help me hit status. So curious how much others fly in order to hit.

It really depends on where you are flying. If you are flying to small regional airports like BTR, you will probably get upgraded to comfort+. If you are traveling between two major airports, ie. ATL to DEN, you can forget it.

I'd say its mainly good for the people who barely miss out on the next tier up, makes you not feel like you wasted all that.

My wife is platinum medallion and she gets automatically upgraded to comfort+ at time of booking. Don't think shes ever been upgraded to first class to Denver and she also has the AMEX Delta Reserve.

She flew 2x a month throughout the year. Once to ATL and once to DEN, with an occasional 3rd flight a month mixed in. This year is a little different because they have the status accelerator, which could be why you are coming close.

I always fly Comfort+ now, I quit book main cabin unless it is a larger international flight with more room.

The accelerator is the only reason I'm coming close, after an upcoming trip I may need to book 1 more to hit those that medallion status. But if it really isn't worth it then there is no point in buying another flight just to hit status.

If you're already booking comfort+ I'd say it's not going to benefit you. Gold, Platinum, Diamond and 360 will all jump you to first class even though you are the only one that bought a premium ticket.

Thanks, what I needed to know... I've been using my Delta Platinum Card and now that I'm close and will be closer once I take my next trip I will be in range but didn't know if it would be worth shelling out additional money I didn't need to spend just to hit Silver Status.

Thought about upgrading my card to the reserve but not for 550 a year

Silver is great to check a box of beer using the medallion line. Other than that, it’s not worth much.

I was usually in the 50s on the upgrade list flying out of LGA. Delta also has the highest paid premium cabins in the industry so there’s not many empty seats to give away.

Former Diamond here, now EXP with AA.

Possible, but you’ll likely be in play for a “battlefield upgrade” (at the gate). Silver is behind gold, plat, and Diamond. Then the breaker goes to rolling MQD, etc. You’re competing for 10-12 seats and hoping a) no one buys them and b) there are less elites on the flight than seats available.

Yes, bigly. Anything over your current level (prior to next level) rolls over. So if you come close to gold, you can realistically roll over 3k MQD and 25k MQM.

Like others have said, silver isn’t worth much. Status in general if you take 3 trips isn’t going to feel like a difference maker. It will help with bags and some seats as the biggest perk. If you fly on weekends you may stand a better chance of an upgrade. I think the tangible benefits begin at gold (free standby, upgrades, and sky priority).

I am a Diamond so happy to answer a few other things. Rollover MQMs help once you hit a status. So if you end with 30k MQMs you will start next year with 5k. What doesn’t rollover is the MQDs. That is the tough one to hit unless you have a Delta Amex (which I recommend). As a Diamond, pre covid I was taking 160-180 flight segments a year. This year I am down to 40 segments so far. Admittedly this may be the first year since 2014 that I won’t make Diamond. I need to spend about 7k more by the end of the year to hit it.

I made silver two months ago and every flight since then I have been upgrade to comfort plus at least. It may be a middle seat but i do get upgraded more than I expected.
I also do have the Amex Deserve card which also boost me up the list. For example this week a co-worker and I flew to Madison and he is gold but yet I was above him on both flights for upgrades.

Yeah the fact I already book Comfort+ doesn't seem really worth it and I have the Delta AMEX so I get a checked bag for free.
Doesn't seem worth booking another trip and just saving the money for hopefully Europe next summer.

If you are close and just need a quick cheap trip, do it. You get priority access at airports, occasional upgrades, and the silver medallion line.
