Good Morning MSB,

So, with the news yesterday it seems more and more likely big time CFB is headed towards (4) conferences of (16) teams. I am a Memphis fan and will always be a Memphis fan, but, it seems more and more likely teams like us will be relegated to a different division or league. Sucks, but is what it is. Ill happily root for my Tigers no matter who they play.

That being said, it sounds like i need to start vetting a team to start rooting for in this new super CFB league. Ive already narrowed down my list a bit but was hoping for some input from other fan bases. Here is where i am at:

SEC: Nah, ive lived in SEC country my whole life and the only thing i root for in that league is chaos and the news yesterday already has that in motion. As much as i hate to admit it, ive always loved watching SEC football completely unbiased.

Big 10: no

ACC: Pitt, Wake and VaTech seem like fun. No thanks to the other Carolina schools or Florida schools or North Eastern schools (SYR, BC). Clemson is a no and frick louisville.

PAC: Colorado and Cal seem like fun as does ASU. No thanks to all the others

I guess what i am looking for is a scrappy team that hasnt had a whole lotta success in the past but in any given year can make a run or at least cause some havoc.

So go ahead, flame away but any morsels of insight would be appreciated.

Thanks

Cal football is the opposite of fun unless it's about 2003

The G5 should just make their own super league and try to get the programs that actually give results

Maybe do some relegation to encourage the bottom-feeders to get with the program and to inspire the part of the G5 that was left out

Only football fans Pitt has left are 50+ years old. Tickets are cheap if you want to make a trip to pittsburgh. Don't expect much success though.

Wake is your wine and cheese crowd. Guess if you're feeling uppity go for it.

VT is probably the closest you'll get to a rabid fan base on that list you put out.

Being in Memphis, wouldn’t your natural geographic team be Ole Miss?

Paternal part of my family are mostly State fans, plus my allegiance to U of Memphis does not allow for that (even if we dont play in the same league).

Interesting, did not know that. Honestly, dont know much about Wake which is why they made the list. That would probably cross them off the list then.

I've always wanted FSU in the SEC. Not so much now because they've been awful for a few years now.

Nah, FSU was my secondary team in the 90's but towards the end of Bowdens tenure and the Jimbo years I completely lost interest (even with the NC). I like Norvell a lot and will always pull for him to succeed but thats about it for me and FSU.

It sounds like you may be an Oklahoma or Oklahoma State guy.
They both are actually close enough for you to drive to for a Oklahoma City weekend getaway (it’s actually a cool town).

Boulder is great to visit…so you’d have that going for you. Otherwise, it’s a pretty boring existence as a Buffs fan.

To aquire a fandom in CFB, I believe you need to attend on campus games to really care. So pick a team that you can take a day trip to.
